Hi! Im Hailey I'm a new reefer in SC!
I bought a 55 gallon tank and stand off craig's list, gave it a make over and started my very first tank build. Every things gone fine no huge mistakes so far. Showed up my super macho father when it came time to drill the back of the tank and I finally put salt water in last week! ReefCentral helped me out the whole process thanks guys! Every question I had was already asked and answered by all the wonderful members here.
Thanks again Best of luck in everyones' tank!

Hello, Back in with 100 gallon Half Round

Hello, Back in with 100 gallon Half Round

I am not new here, but I'm back with a new name after along time away. In the past I was not very active in posting. But plan to be much more active in the community this time around.

I've been away from the hobby for more than 3 years. I previously had 110 gallon tall glass tank. This time around i'm starting off with a 100 gallon Half round that I picked up on CL. I hope to post a build thread showing the scratch removal process and setup to completion. Mainly for fun and advise.

I plan on keeping a mixed reef mainly LPS and SPS.

Thanks

Adam

Hi All, I've been lurking here for quite a while - never had a saltwater tank and now i have the itch to set one up! I need to first get some home renovations out of the way and expect to start making purchases sometime in the fall. Until then, it will be research and admiration of all the fine work.

Best

Joe

Hi Ya'll! My name is Laurie and all I can say is where were you 20 years ago? We gave up on a reef tank back in the day...too many woes and two little kids that kept us on the run taking up our time. Now, after 20+ years, an empty nest, too much time on my hands, and a love for the beauty of the reef, we are giving it another go. This sight has been amazing. You are my bible to every little issue we have encountered. THANK YOU! I have been reading a lot, but only registered today.

We purchased a used system, which may have been a mistake. I think we inheritated the past owners problems. I believe we have conqured most the issues (another thanks to RC) are now on the right path of a happy, healthy tank. My newest problem is I can't get anything done. I sit for hours and hours and watch in amazement.

Looking forward to reading and learning all I can.

Hello everyone, my name is bigfish93, but you can call me Joe if you would like. I am not new to the hobby, however, I am new to the saltwater side. I have kept small freshwater tanks on and off for as long as I can remember. My most recent one was a 20 gallon high planted tank with 7 Lemon Tetra. I played sports my whole life and continued through high school and I was very dedicated them. My parents were also very supportive and helped me financially because I did not have time for a job; I was a four sport athlete in high school. This meant that saltwater was not an option for me due to its expense and time committment. I was ok with this though because I never had a desire to set up a saltwater aquarium. While I thought they were neat, I didn't think they were worth the time, effort, money, or trouble that they required to be properly set up. I have since graduated from high school and started my first job, which I have had for about a year now. Money is still tight because I am a college student, but I now have some spending money. My only freshwater tank was recently taken down after I had to take care of my Unlce's reef tank for a week while he was away on vaccation. After only a couple days of taking care of his reef, I was hooked! I immediately started researching saltwater tanks again. However, this time I went more in depth and researched everything about them. I quickely learned that a saltwater tank was not as daunting of a task as I originally thought. It just takes a lot of research and patience. I now have a 40 gallon breeder set up in my room waiting to become a beautiful reef tank. The forums seem to be a fantastic way to acquire the most recent and useful information. With that in mind, I started talking with the Salties on another forum that I was actively involved in while keeping freshwater tanks. I quickly learned that the saltwater side of the forums was dead, and began looking for a new forum. This seems to be a hot spot and I look forward to meeting all of you and picking your brains for all the information I can. From what I hear, I will also be using all of my "spending money" to get this thing going, but I cannot wait to get my first fish. I will be continuing my tank build thread from a previous site so everyone can follow along here.

Hi my nick is Blackie and I learned of this site from a reputable shop in FL. I have kept a 75 gal fresh tank on the past and am looking to get into marine tanks. I am working at having a pro install with walkthru setup in the future but am concerned about location of the tank. I would like to place a 90 gal or so in the living room of my house i share with 2 other friends (i.e. no kids). I am concerned about the definition of "high traffic". I have a great spot in mind on one end ofthe room that i must walk by to reach my room, my bathroom, our linen closet and a spare bedroom that is occasionally used. It is also right next to our dartboard flight path that is seldom used. Taking all this into consideration as well as the fact our community tv and stereo are in this room that measures 12 ft by 21 ft with a 12 ft ceiling...is this a feasible area for a showcase marine tank? thanks for the help.

Hi there!

I'm a relatively new aquarist working at a small aquarium. I have only been in the industry for about a year, and basically started my job knowing nothing about taking care of fish in captivity.

Our tanks range in 10,000 gallons to 10 gallons, and we mostly just have fish. We have freshwater, cold water marine, and tropical marine tanks. And I do almost everything in the aquarium, it's so crazy! I help take care of fish, clean the tanks, do water quality testing, and maintenance on the life support systems.

I have been trying to learn as much as I can from every possible source, and I look forward to using this forum as a place to guide me.

Hello everyone

Hello everyone

Hi All,

My name is Bert. I am fairly new to the aquarium hobby. I started with a 29G freshwater tank about two years ago, and recently began to venture into saltwater. I started a 55gallon tank in February. My plan is for an initial FOWLR tank, but with the addition and conversion to a reef tank once the tank matures. I have the tank set up with a 29G tank converted into a sump/refugium. The tank is cycling (fishless) at the moment and I am trying to take it slow and only have dry rock, as I am going on vacation for 4 weeks in April. I do not plan to add any fish until after I get back. My biggest challenge will be to complete the cycle and keep my bacteria alive while gone (I don't want to have to restart that process)

I am soaking up as much information as I can, and this forum has been a valiable source so far.

My name is Andrew. I have a 75gal traditional rectangle tank that is drilled off center on the left. It sat empty for about 2 months in my living room as I did some homework on this site and tried to get comfortablen with a tank that could ruin my nice hardwood floor. I finally bit the bullet 3weeks ago and filled it up and put a sump underneath. Now I have a total of 72lbs of live rock with about 1 inch of aragonite. Yesterday I added a few snails and hermit crabs to start the cleanup. I still have dreams of waking up to a ruin living room, but so far those are just bad dreams!

My name's Chris. Been lurking for a while but never posted. Currently stocking a 40g breeder which I'll start a thread for shortly. I had a few freshwater tanks growing up, but this is only my second saltwater tank. Enjoying it tremendously and have found a great deal of valuable information on this site.

Thanks to everyone that's contributed to my reading. Look forward to paying it back.

Hey all, my name is Brian. I am new to the forum and fairly new to Saltwater tanks. I have a 75 gallon with LR, Sand. 2 Chromis, Firefish Goby, Percula Clown, and a starting of Xenia. Just setup last week my new refugium. Got rid of my sump with Bio-Balls and went to Sump-Refugium route. Have some Chaeto and 5 Mangroves coming this week. Also in last month setup a Phosban reactor with NPX-bioplastics in it. My water quality i want to improve is why i am using the Reactor and added a refugium. My nitrates run between 10-20ppm and i want that at or near 0.

But, thanks for the add and i will be sending questions soon.

Hellllllllo Reefers!

Whenever I have a question, or issue (rarely thou), I'll prowl onto this site... and I figured, mine as well join it. :)

I'm fairly new to the hobby, 5 years strong, and over time I've become pretty involved with it.

My mentor in this hobby owned a exotic marine fish store for 25 years in Boston. He dissolved the store after many many years of being known as "the saltwater fish guy". I've been trying to get him to reopen, and reconstruct his business model to include 'virtual' customers... he'll come around one of these days.

I have 2 tanks:

Freshwater "Grandfather Clock" (see album), 20g, a bunch of Guppies and some Tetra's, 1x350 Magnum Canister Filter, 1 Airstone, Water Heater, 1 Very Long Fake Plant, 20lbs gravel.
Saltwater, 72g Bowfront, 350lbs Live Rock, 100lbs Live Sand, (2) 350 Magnum Canister Filters, 15W AQ 2000+ UV Sterilizer, 2x65W Power Compact Fluorescents, Water Heater, Air Stones (that aren't on), and 1 Circulator.
Right now the inventory is:
Inverts: Over 100 Snails, 25 Turbo Snails, (QTY?) Blue Hermit Crabs, 7 Emerald Crabs, 1 Serpent Sea Star, 1 Brittle Banded Sea Star, 1 Linkia Sea Star, 1 , 1 Unknown Starfish, 1 Red Banded Shrimp, 1 Arrowhead Crab, 5 Sea Urchins, 2 Feather Dusters, 5 Atlantic (unknown species) Anemones
Fish: 2 Yellow Tangs, 1 Percula Clown, 1 Niger Trigger, 1 Mandarin Goby, 1 Coral Beauty

...and I think that's it!

Looking forward to posting on this forum!

Regards,
~Andy

Hello,

My name is Ovidiu and I'm from Bucharest Romania.

I have started a nano reef (12g) and I'm making also a 70g's one.

The best forum ever !

All the best.

Doh! I found the RC forums a couple of weeks ago but didn't see this until now.

I had a one-year-old 20 gal that I converted to a 125 gal a couple months ago, so I'm still new and figuring things out. Started with great advice from snorvich.

My name's George, and I'm an optoelectronic engineer in Austin, TX for a micro-SBIR company. I'm an ex-submariner (EM2/SS on SSN 639) and SCUBA diver. The addictive and very expensive hobby of diving has led me to the addictive and very expensive hobby of reefing.
