If You Are New to Reef Central, Introduce Yourself Here!

Hey all, I'm Chris.

I'm living in Renton, WA and just got started on a Biocube 29 HQI.

Haven't had fish since I was a kid with a goldfish bowl with under gravel filter.

I've been reading a lot and see the hobby has grown by leaps and bounds in the 20 years that I was in the Navy.

...and like any noob, I'm looking at my first problem...

I'll put it in a more appropriate topic, though. :)

Hi All, Im Perre -

Back into reefing after a one year break (I couldn't stay away). Currently still in the build phase, but have been able to recycle most of my old equipment. I make my living as an environmental process engineer, and have a PhD in environmental chemistry. I love to help people newcomers to the hobby with questions concerning filtration and water chemistry.

Hi I'm new to the forum. My wife and I decided to get an aquarium and I am here to learn. I have no prior knowledge about any of this stuff.

My son loves the movie finding Nemo so I guess we want a 29 gallon saltwater tank.

Any help or link to tutorials would be helpful. In the meantime I'll keep browsing the forum.

Hey everybody!

I have been lurking on Reef Central for quite some time now trying to do some research in order to get my dad's tank up and running. I am a freshwater planted tank guy, but my dad used to have a reef tank 15 years ago and he wanted to jump back into the hobby. While we are sure to make plenty of mistakes, I feel that we have avoided many costly ones thanks to this forum. This tank is around three months old now, and I am doing my best to convince my dad that he needs to stick with easy to keep corals and to go at a slow pace. I have already gotten some emergency phone calls to come over to his house a few times now, and I want to avoid as many of those as possible. The hardest thing is convincing him that he already has enough fish in there and to not overstock it.

Thank you Reef Central for providing a great resource and community. If I would have listened to our LFS' advice we would have been in serious trouble by now.

:wavehand:

Hallo everybody,

after successfully running a 10 gal nano cube for 3 years with various corals, 7 month ago my wife and I upgraded to a 60 gal tank. A quick snap shot is attached.
At Reef Central we always found very helpful hints, so thanks to all of you, to simplify this hobby to us.

best regards from Austria/Europe

Hello

Hello

Hello ladies and gentlemen, Just wanted to introduce myself. I am Lee and I am brand new to this hobbie. I have never tried saltwater so I have been reading A LOT. I posted to the "new to hobby" forum on my specific tank setup. Hope to get a lot of advice in advance prior to setting one up. I really believe, after reading a ton of threads, that the people on this site are INCREDIBLY well versed on how to create incredible systems; so, I want to learn from the best. I am a high school principal so my time is limited and I am always at high school events, but I believe this hobbie will help relax me from those frustrating days at school. Hope to talk to you all about this great hobbie.

Hey everyone, I'm new to the site. I've had a 30 gal. fresh water tank for several years. I also have a koi pond. I'm interested in getting into salwater. Naturally I'm reading a dummies book at the moment, and I've been referred to RC by Satori.

Hi. My name is Bill. I'm glad I stumbled across this site while searching for a treatment for ick. 1st attempt with saltwater, but went for a 90 gal. and my goal is a fairly well stocked reef. It has only been up and running 4 months. I've made some mistakes (lack of patience) but it appears there are some good guidelines and advice here.

Welcome Billy.
The one thing every single one of us has, and always will have, in common....
is that we've all made a mistake once or twice. ;)

Hell my name is Anthony.I am about to start my first saltwater tanks.I have had 4 fish tanks in the past with the largest being a 50 gallon tank.I have had chiclids, pacus, bala sharks and a couple other fish species.

Right now I have a a 50 gallon tank which i will use for saltwater.I would like a reef tank with some corals and maybe like 3 or 4 fish(clown fish) and some snails and shrimp.I would like to get a sump and set up a refudgeium but my 2 kids are very active(2 year olds) and i dont want to have water open in the sump so they can stick their hands in it ..aquarium stand i have has 3 openings but they are narrow.I guess i may have to get a new stand which can fit a sump underneath.

From what i have researched a Canister filter will not cut it for reef tank right ?
