Hello all. I'm new to the site and fairly new to the hobby. I'm relieved to know there is a great source of information at my fingertips on reef central. I love the hobby and am hopping to someday start my own large tank build.

Hello Everyone, so glad to have found this site. And yes as a total noob, I have a million threads to read, and another mill of questions to ask. I have purchase my first saltwater tank, which is a 75 corner fish tank. Have a 12g cube with my freshwater friends. Bit now Im ready to head into the saltwater depths. I'm a computer engineer, and a big animal lover, peta type. The wife humors me, with all the crazy hobbies. When I was a young man, I always wanted to be an oceonographer, and the parents talk me out of it. Today I still have the passion, being an avid diver and fisherman here in South Flo. Thanks to all who contribute on this site, as I'm sure the knowledge I will gain here will be priceless.

I have about 25 lbs of live rock and 45 lbs of live sand; well hopefully its live by now. It's been running for 3 months now. the only thing for filtration is a CPR HOB skimmer and a Phosban reactor running rowaphos. Excited to be apart RC! Very new to Reef tanks

Very new to Reef tanks

Hello fellow fish lovers. I have had freshwater tanks for over 20 years and I'm about to embark on the wonderful world of saltwater. I have purchased a 45 gallon cube tank (I think it is called a breeder) with a 10-15g sump for my initial saltwater aquarium. I plan on getting it set up this weekend and begin my cycle. I have already spent way too much money on this hobby and have not even bought the firsth fish or coral.

I have been reading through the forum posts and hope to receive the same kind of patience that you guys seem to exhibit to most noobs.

Thanks,

Hi all, my name is Mitch I'm a 22 year old full time college student (majoring in business management) living in Edmond, Oklahoma. I'm extremely new to the hobby, I haven't purchased a tank or anything yet, just trying to learn as much as I can right now. I'm extremely excited to start up my own reef aquarium, I have always been fascinated by them, but now that I'm moving off campus into my own place as soon as this semester is over, my interest has exploded like never before. I was at a LFS yesterday and was given a card with this site printed on it, and the shop keeper highly reccomended it. So I've been on here reading as much as I can ever since. I think this is the most informative site I have seen so far :)

Anyways, I was hoping to get started as soon as I feel like I have an adaquate knowledge of reef tanks, so any advice would be GREATLY appreciated! I'm bascially starting at ground zero right now o_O

Thanks
Hi Mitch!! I'm also new to Reef Central. I saw that you're in the very beginning stages of your tank, and you're doing what I did when I got started (Reading all the forums/boards/etc.) Trying to learn what you need to get going in this hobby can be a bit much at first. I didn't know which direction to go..I reached out to a couple different places looking for help, advice, and to maybe make some friends.... (NOT referring to RC) I've only posted a couple times, (other places) but no one answers/talks to me:facepalm: *que tiny violin!!*LOL
ANYWAYS.. if you EVER need any help, or specific advice/opinions drop me a line anytime!!! Have you decided what size tank you want to go with yet?
I've only been doing this like 4 years, and I'm by NO means an expert (intermediate at best) but if I can help someone out, with something I needed help with.... that would be awesome;)

Hey everybody, I'm a microbiology major finally applying my schooling to the hobby. I've been a FW guy for a long time and am just now taking the "plunge" into SW.
I'm also a member of the planted tank forum, as I have a 5g planted tank. I also have a 29 SW that I can't wait to add corals to.

Hey everyone, I'm just setting up my first saltwater tank (75 gallons), and I've used this site's newbie information often the past couple of weeks. You guys seem very knowledgeable and friendly, so I thought I'd take the plunge and register so I can ask specific questions if I need to, and get to know everyone.

:crazy1:

My intro

My intro

Hey everyone I'm new to this forum just made an account last week and thought I'd introduce myself. I'm sort of new to saltwater tanks, but I'd say I'm knowledgeable about most aquarium stuff. I started out with 2 axolotls (hence the name) and went to cichlids, then to a little 20 gallon saltwater that was a disaster (started with damsels ) then to more axolotls. I worked at a coral farm for a few months and received a 90 gallon wave front that is now a FOWLR tank and has been running for about 6 months and I also received a few led strips so I converted my 20 gallon into a nano tank that's been running for 3 or so months now.

Hello from over the pond !! I'm ray from Rochester Kent England . I just found your site and all though I been keeping fish 35yrs, marines 12 yrs I thought I see if you guys do it any different in the USA . Hi all. I've read a ton on your forum already as I was preparing to start and now I'm in. As you can see in my signature I live in China so my greatest difficulty is that it's almost impossible to get the EXACT names of the things I'm buying. I use a lot of pictures and a lot of google translate. Luckily our town of 7 million JUST got a Reef Tank Store. It's small and they mainly sell the entire packages but they have been working with me to help me get all set up. Stuff here is pricey when it comes to Fish and Coral but Cheap when it comes to Equipment. Currently I have a 20 gallon tank with a Boyu Skimmer, LED lights and a Seio 530. The Skimmer seems to be too small or just crap. I have never gotten the brown foam like I'm supposed to. The closest I get is every once in a while I get a yellowish foam. Do I need a better skimmer? I also read a lot about DSB's but since my local store here doesn't do them I was too afraid to try. There were too many parameters that I couldn't guarantee. . .ie. Good live sand and live rock. I guess we're only supposed to introduce ourselves here so I'll leave the questions to other threads. Thanks for all the great input.

Hello, just signed up but have been reading posts for a while. I have a 125 gallon (72" long) that has been up and running for about 6 months. Taking things slow and doing it right with a quarantine tank and everything. Have a small volitan lion, zebra eel, and yellow tang at the moment. Looking forward to more great information.

Hi everyone! My name is Andei, I am brand spanking new to the hobby. I have just begun my reef tank with a 20 gallon long. I have just finished cycling and have put my first fish and coral into my tank. I have 2 clownfish, a "candy cane" coral and another coral in which i have forgotten the name of, lol; 10lbs of live rock and the live sand. I have a local marine shop about a mile up the road that has been very helpful in getting me started. Looking forward to meeting everyone!

Hi folks!

New to the forum. I currently have a less than ideal Nova Extreme t5 HO light fixture, looking for some advice on an upgrade. Heading over to the lighting forum in a few!

For now, a bit about me. I'm currently working and going to school full time, studying to be a counselor. In my (nearly nonexistent) spare time, I'm pretty well obsessed with anything aquatic, electronic, or sparkly. I have an approximately 2 1/2 year old 55 gallon tank that I inherited from a friend who was getting out of the hobby. I'm very excited to be here!!
