10 years with freshwater and decided to take on a new challenge

Hi guys!

I'm Rachael and I have been doing freshwater fish for the last decade. Well, I recently moved and had an old 10 gallon tank that needed something done with it. After a visit with my lfs, I decided to try a saltwater nano tank. I figure that will be a bit more work than a big tank, but I figure I can learn a lot and get significantly more practice in care of saltwater tanks with it. :)

Hey RC, Dominic here. 120 mixed reef, 20 fuge. Been having some problems with hair algae and loss of color in all of my corals. I am not sure what to do. I just started the vodka method today...any advice out there?

Lurker for some time. Just bought a new house with space for a tank. Trying to learn all I can. Will keep reading and reading

Hello all, new to the forum. Been in the hobby for years, in the process of setting up a 75 gallon reef, hope to post some pictures soon.

Hey everyone, I am new to this forum. I am currently in the process of setting up a 20g Brackish GSP tank and eventually moving it to full marine. Wish me luck!

Hi all I am new to Reef Central and I just wanted to introduce myself. I got a great deal on a used 75 gallon tank with stand, lights, hood, skimmer, filter, coral sand power heads almost everything I needed. I just bought some live rock and started my cycle so here we go. I have had fresh water tanks for years now and this will be my first attempt at a salt water. I even got lucky and got a small crab hiding in my live rock that i am considering as a good omen.
here is a picture off to a good start, and a pic of my new resident Mr. Crab I'm sure the tank will change continually as the months go on. My wife is already kicking herself for letting me buy it. :fish1:

Hi, folks. I just signed up on RC. I ran a 29-gal critter aquarium for a few years, then sold everything when I moved. The idea was to eventually "reef" a larger tank. Now, 10 years on, I'm ready to start again. From what I've read, ~75 gallons seems a good place for a reef noob to start, so that's what I'm thinking. The more I read (lurking in forums, various websites, etc) the more I feel I need to learn. But that's OK. I like learning new things.

Hello my name is Chris. I have a 10g set up and I am about to get a 20 long. I have a blue damsel, coral banded, and a few zoas. Here is a pic of my favorite one.

New Guy

New Guy

My name is Alex, I'm from West Deptford, NJ.

I just bought a 36 gallon bow front for my new apartment. I plan on making an internal refugiun and filter system with 4 sections the water flows through, an overflow with all the filter media, a live rock section, macro algea and an outflow with a 300 gph pump, custom built with black acrylic. I am very new at this so to start I'm plannin live rock with some livestock and then hopefully move into some coral.

I maintained the 75 gallon aquarium in the science lab in college and since then I've always wanted one of my own. I never realized what went into setting one of these up but i think i have a good plan...

I was to told this was the place to go and read up!
Thanks,
AD

My name is Frank and new to this forum.I have had my 90 SW for a yr now,was going to be FOWLR but were leaning towards doing some corals now since all my fish now are reef safe.Look forward to great advice and learning as much as possible

Hey reefcentral.com. My name is Mike and I am getting ready to jump into the saltwater game. I have been keeping freshwater aquariums for roughly eight years now and am ready to move up. My current setups include a 10gallon betta/community aquarium, 40 gallon aquarium with Gold Mac, and a 300 gallon show tank currently housing 4 Golden Dorados, 1 Vittatus Tiger Fish, 1 Jaguar Cichlid, and a Tiger Shovelnose Catfish. I have yet to set up a saltwater....but that is why I am here! I will be taking advantage of the $1 per gallon sale @ Petco this weekend to pick up a 30 gallon aquarium which will be my first saltwater, I've also got a 125 gallon in my garage which will be built around a saltwater eel (was looking at a Tesselata Eel at my LFS until further research showed that they should have a min. 180). I am currently a member of several freshwater forums and am looking forward to learning from the experience of the members here....so that is pretty much it. Thanks for having me and I guess I'll get started.:bounce3:

Hello from the middle of no where!

Hello from the middle of no where!

Hey, just ordered up a new Nano Cube 28 CF Quad for my first foray into the reef thing. My biggest challenge will be the fact that I live 2 hours from a big city (Albuquerque) which means I have no LFS to rely on. (I don't think the fish section at the local Wal-Mart would qualify :lolspin: ).

I expect to be lurking here mostly!

whats up rc, i am new to reefing and saltwater in general. i got a great deal on a 72 rr bowfront that i could not resist. the tank has been setup about 8 weeks now and it has been a learning process to say the least!

forgot about this thread, sorry.

Names Pat, have done FW in the past, gave it up to run an exotic reptile facility, focusing on high end snake morphs. Lived in So Cal for 26 years and just recently moved to the Houston area.

Have learned so much from this place already. Planning on setting something up very soon.

Hello, Not new to the hobby but new to the forum.
Got a nasty little 5 gal nano/pico thats coming along nicely, got my fish on order and hopefully will post pics soon.
Im having a few teething troubles so expect requests for advice soon.;)

Hi there,

I think I broke the rules since I did not introduce my self in this post before.

My name it's Daniel. I'm currently living in Panama City, Central America

I been in the hobby for some time know. I moved to Panama and after 3 years I decided to set up the tank since here it's almost impossible to find live stock.

I placed two post's but every time says that a moderator has to check my message before... Why???

I hope to keep learning here if the moderators allows me lol...

Newbie here.. I had a 55 gal freshwater years ago and totaly enjoyed it, but I got married and space came at a premium so.... I wanted to do a salt water aquarium then, but thought I had to go bigger, so I didn't do it. Now I see all these nano tanks and reefs and see the hobby has gained so much more understanding of how to make smaller tanks work and it has got me interested again.

I have been looking at the 29 gal biocubes because space is still limited (three teenagers in the house ) and a compact setup is about the only way I can go. So I am trying to figure out all the mods I need to do to make one work for a reef with a few fish. I don't know if it is worth starting with the hqi or the basic version and upgrade the lights. If I have to upgrade anyway, is it worth the extra money or am I missing something?

I have plenty of time while I try to save up some money. I am clueless on coral and have a lot of studying to do!
