Greetin' from Sunny California!

Greetin' from Sunny California!

I have been in suclusion of the hobby/business for about 8 years. (got grounded by the wife for too many flooded floors...:headwally:)

I was very heavy involved in LPS/SPS and propagation of softies and sps.
I am looking for sources of NEW info. New books, and especially new control/monitoring systems.

Reasons why I am especially interest in the "gadget" aspect is that I am somewhat color blind and I could not rely on my own readings of tests. Greens and reds especially are very hard for me to judge. The digital aspects made life MUCH easier. I know that there are more controllers with many more functions than the neptune I had.

I will be setting up a new system in about 6 months. It will be a 155 gal bowfront for the display, a 120 gal sump (wish I still had my old 300 gal sump...), I will have a 6 gal carlson dump with a ATS built in. I will also have a bank of isolatable 5 gal grow out/spawning/quaratine tanks.

Main equipment will be an old EuroReef 250(?) PS, calcium reactor (needs a new CO2 reg/solinoid). I do have most of the equipment. The carlson surge with the algae scrubber aspect is going to be a new toy. I have had a carlson surge before and also an ATS before. But I will be combining the two into 1 unit.

I have several very good peristaltic pumps for different dosing needs including kalc.

Old lighting was m/h agmented with blue atinics t-8s, but will be moving to LED (yippie! Much cooler! Maybe I wont need the chiller!)

In many ways, I will be new to the hobby, but at the same time I do know alot (albeit forgot much more!)

Thanks for any info to get me back up to speed!!!

TIA, Bruce

Hello

Well Hello everyone My name is Brandon and I live in Southern California, I have been doing fresh water for many years and got into salt water reefs about a year ago or so, I started with a 10gallon nano cube and have since gone to a 60 gallon reef, I am keeping my 60 up and working now on going into a new build where I am taking my closet under my stairs and building an in wall 110 gallon or so reef tank that will be viewed from my living room. Glad to be here and looking forward to meeting you all and having great discussions and hope to get some good advice and great friends until then keep on tankin.

Hello!

Hello!

Hello All,

I'm Kyle, I'm new to Reef Central and new to the saltwater hobby! I currently have a 30g display with a 20g wet/dry sump (I know this is over-kill for a 30g, but I want to get a bigger tank down the road and don't want to rebuild a sump), 50lb of LS and 30lb of LR. It's been up and running for 6 weeks now, I haven't introduced any fish yet, plan on doing so this weekend. I have tried a few mushroom with no success  but have been told to get fish to help get the tank more balanced for corals.

I've been reading these forums for a few days now, and very impressed with the wealth of knowledge and willingness to help, that people have!! I know this site will be of great help to me!

I do have a couple questions though, I've recently ordered a Marineland Reef Capable LED Lighting System for my tank, and wanted to know if anyone has used or knows of anyone that's used this light and what they think about it? The specs are:

23 - 1 Watt White LEDs

4 - 1 Watt Blue LEDs

Par/LUX at 12"
130/12700

PAR/LUX at 24"
64/5870

1670 - Lumens

I've attached a graph from Merineland's site.

Also, can anyone recommendation some reputable site to get fish online?

Thanks everyone, and I'm sure I'll be talking to a lot of you in the future!

New member and just started a new tank!

New member and just started a new tank!

Hello All!

My name is Ike. I am a new member here and just started up a new 28 gallon nanocube. This is not my first tank but I just am getting back into the hobby after taking a 7 year break. I used to have a full 55 long reef tank. Absolutely loved that thing! Have regretted selling it every since I did.

I am now trying out the all in one setup with my new 28 JBJ nano cube Quad-CF.

Just set this tank up last Saturday and am now waiting impatiently for the cycle! I started with some really awesome pieces of live rock that I got from some local hobbiests and LFS. Started with a little over 50 pounds of live rock and built what I think is a pretty nice aquascape.

anyway, thats all for now! Thanks for having me!

Hello, im jose. I started my 20Gal saltwater tank about 6 months ago with about 18-20lbs of live rock. Ive been reading here for a while, finally decide to join. My tank now has 2 clown fish, 1 cleaner shrimp, 1 algae blenny, a small zoanthid colony, a green star polyp and a Bubble tip anemone.

My tank has been doing great and can say that i'm very addicted to the hobby.

Hi, my name Frank and have been doing this for one month. I was given a 29 bio cube a couple weeks before christmas. I put in live sand and rock to get started then. The tank has cycled earlier in the week. I plan on doing both reef and fish with a basic idea of how it should look. Next week I will add a couple of clownfish to start. Look forward to learning what I can from this forum.
