If You Are New to Reef Central, Introduce Yourself Here!

Hi first day here on reef central, have had freshwater 20+ years started reefing about a year ago and I wish I had been on these forums from the start, great information behind every mouse click. I look forward to learning much from this site as I update my setup over the next weeks

Hello all! My name is Jerald and I've kept aquariums on and off for about 12 years. I started, like most others, with freshwater. It wasn't until 4 years ago when I got a stable job that I decided to venture into saltwater. At first I just wanted to get a "nemo" fish, but I think it was the colors and diversity of coral that really hooked me.

I started with a 29 gallon cube with a canister filter, cpr bakpak, and a couple of pc light fixtures. A couple years later i was able to get a cheap reef ready 75 gallon tank, stand and sump. Unfortunately I wasn't able to keep it for long because the sump cracked and i couldnt repair or replace it without breaking down the tank. At this time I have plans to start another tank hopefully soon. I prefer keeping mixed reef tanks. I intend to keep LPS and softies for now, as i don't have the discipline to maintain an sps tank.

So thats my story. I still feel very much like newb and often look to sites such as RC for help.

Hello. My name is Erick and Im addicted to Aquariums. I have been doing freshwater for 20 years now (31 yrs old) and now I just switched to a FOLWR tank 55g. Already cycling. I look to make a reef tank in the future but i'll just stick with this one for starters. I look forward to all the advice I can get. Tank started here 3/11/13 curently cycling

Hello!

Hello!

I have had a fresh water tank for over five years and have recently set up my first saltwater tank. 56 gallon column currently FOWLR but I am hoping to add corals soon. I already have a Blue Dot Toby Puffer so my choices for corals are limited I know. Hoping to get some peaceful mushrooms and colony polyps.

Hey everyone. My name is Kalen. I am new as in very new to salt water aquariums. I just got a 24 gal bio cube from a wonderful lady here on reef central. I got it set up and running Sunday night. She had left a little water and the live rock in there. The tank is beautiful and the water cleared up nicely. We are going to let it cycle for a few weeks. What are some good fish to go in a tank this size?

I love nano fish! It depends on how many fish you want really. Try liveaquaria.com they have great selections. Personally, I would have seahorses :) They are slow and mythodical swimmers so they don't do great in a mixed community but they can be housed with some clowns and mandarins and gobies.

Hello! I am new to this forum, as you can see :) I have had my tank running for about 3 months now. It is a 20gallon FOWLR tank which I am hoping to soon turn into a reef tank. I have two ocellaris clowns, one black and one orange. (names haley and nathan, hence "naley")
This is no longer a hobby...its an obbsession! You guys probably feel this way too. I hope I can get some awesome advice from all of you reefers and eventually give some advice of my own!

i have a reef & fish 105 gal tank been doing this for almost ten years need to replace my AETech skimmer (outside unit connected to my sump) want to know what is good out there?

Hello...As a kid I had freshwater fish tanks and really enjoyed buying and caring for many different fish. I enjoyed createing the environment for them to live in and it was gratifying when all went well! It was especially nice to sit and just watch them move about.
Well...life got busy(got married, job, raising kids etc, etc, etc!)and aquariums fell by the wayside.
Fast foward 30 years and I asked for an aquarium this past Christmas, which I got. A 38 gallon tank and stand. I immediately set it up and it's going great. But one big mistake I made...I should have set it up as a reef tank. When I was at the local pet center in January I saw a reef tank and it was instant love at first sight!!! I wanted one. And I'm "gonna" have one! I'm not gong to tear down the freshwater tank. Actually from all the research I've been doing it may very well be too small anyway. My plan is to start with a 75 gallon tank which I've yet to buy. As a matter of fact I haven't purchased anything yet. Anyway I have been doing research and a staff at that local pet center suggested I visit this website, which I did and very glad I did. I believe this will be the ONLY place I need to turn to for anything I will need to know about reef tank setup.
Thanks for letting me share a little about where I am in the process.

Hello Everyone

Hello Everyone

I started with freshwater angel fish as a little kid, and then salt for 15 years. Looking to start again after we moved and sold the tank a number of years ago now. I'm in NW Iowa, if anyone has a nice system they might want to sell? I want to buy quality this time (with a budget). I have two young kids I want to get excited about aquariums. Looking forward to a dialog with you all.

New and on a tight budget!!

I am only 15 years old and I just sold my 55 gallon cichlid tank. I have lots of freshwater experience but no saltwater. Where do I start with this hobby with a current 400$ budget. I was thinking about the 29 biocube but I have heard mixed feelings, any help at all would be great.

Hey guys, Just joined because I've found a few answers I've had thru this forum by google and thought It was time.
Had some questions about some Scypha sponge.. Didn't know what they were until tonight.

Im a 25 yr old pipe smoker, electrician from metro Detroit with 2 new tanks. A 20 gal fowlr for my son and just started a 14 gal bio cube last month with nothing but live rock in there for now.

I also belong to www.christianpipesmokers.net another forum about.... You guessed Pipe smoking.

Hope to learn a lot thru here, I spend my nights on YouTube for all my answers
