If You Are New to Reef Central, Introduce Yourself Here!

Have been a "reefer" for about 4 years now , i live in the beautiful city stavanger , in Norway , i am 46 years old.:(

Hey that's 46 years upright and above ground so that's a good thing! :)

Beautiful tank video and I've sent out a tweet with the link on Twitter.
Glad you said hi!

Wow nice tank. Live the Moorish idol. I'll be getting a few in the upcoming months for sure. How does it do with the tangs as far as feeding goes..

noob looking for advice

noob looking for advice

hey guys im new to the forum and even having a saltwater tank in general. just got my first one. i was wondering what i can add to this, i don't have much room so i want my purchase to be worth it. i dont think i can fit much more fish in here but i could be wrong. i read somewhere you can have 1 inch of fish for each gallon. its a 30 gallon so i can have 30 1 inch fish? seems like a lot. here are some pics of what i got.

shrimp

bi colored angelfish

clown fish

don't know what he is

green starfish- coolest one in there

all the coral/plants are live, i also have some small snails and crabs in there. i first want to know if i were to get the "true" clownfish the real orange one, would it be ok with the clownfish in there now (from what i read seems like he is a "false"). What can i put in here (what would be safe) and how many more can i fit. any replies would be greatly appreciated! thanks

New to hobby. 1 week into our first cycle

Hello all. my wife and I just started to cycle our first tank. We have done a bunch of research but obviously not enough. We have a 46 g bow front with a 20 g sump. Lots of questions and we are hoping to meet new friends and be a part of this awesome new community.

Brand new to Saltwater Tanks

Brand new to Saltwater Tanks

Hello everyone my name is Adam, I am brand new to the Salt tanks. I have been reading up on the for about two weeks now. I plan on doing a 20 gal long reef set up. Its all the space and money I can manage since I will be setting it up at my new house. I have been doing freshwater for about 8 plus years now and want to do a salt tank now. Any input on what I should do will be greatly appreciated.

Thank You

Hey all, I've had an account here for a while and figured now is the time to say hi!

I've kept fish of some sort for nearly 30 years now. I had tried a reef in the mid 90's but it didn't work out too well. I stuck with triggers for a few years and then went back to FW.

Last year I decided to give reef keeping a go again.

I currently have a 27 cube with sps, lps, zoanthids and paly's, along with other odds and ends.

I also have a really small frag tank for my corals that don't have a place in the cube. It's functions as a catch all more or less lol!

I'm in the process of setting up a cadlights 50 cube. I should have that up and running soon. It'll be predominately sps with a few zoas and paly's.

I'll start a thread on the new build soon.

Hello my name is Marcus and I have been additively reading RC for some time now. Have had fresh water tanks my whole life then was sold and misguided on a "saltwater" tank. (Overstocked, freshwater filter, 10lbs LR in 75 gallon tank) After struggling with that tank I decided I would research and redeem myself. The time has come to setup my 90 gallon reef! Should be a fun ride

About your clownfish , what you have is a Maroon clownfish , i like those alot , and i have one myself , it can be a bit aggresive to other fish , and then specially clown family ....but its a great fish , and not false at all ;-)

The orange and yellow fish you have is a dottyback , also very nice , but can be aggresive ...

Hello everyone. I have just recently moved to the panhandle of Florida and am looking for those near me that are in the reef community. I'm looking to get back into the hobby and learn from those around me. Also I'm on the lookout for a decent size tank. Hope to hear from you guys and gals. :wavehand:

My name is Eric, I live in Nokomis FL. I'm new to the hobby and to reef central. I started an 80 gal reef tank with a sump about 2 months ago. The tank was doing great but I wasn't using a qt. Unfrortunately, My fish contracted Brooklynella and died despite an emergency hospital tank and formaldehyde treatment. My inverts and corals look great. I am currently setting up a qt. Once it has cycled I will start with some inexpensive fish. I plan to quarantine about 8 weeks. This should put me at about 12 weeks post fish removal from the reef. Just enough time for the Brooklynella cysts to clear out. Wish me luck

Hey all,
I am brand new to the hobby...seriously haven't even started putting water in the tank yet! I purchased (2) 55 gallon tanks with stand at a yard sale from a fellow fish fanatic. I have had tanks before but they were always freshwater and never more than 10 gallons. My plan is to start up 1 of the tanks now and worry about the other later (if I'm successful). So far I'm 75% complete with the stand I'm building which will hold both tanks side by side. I didn't like the stackable stand. (I decided to take up carpentry as well apparently.) I purchased (2) 120 watt LED lights. My problem is that I don't have anyone to "mentor" me in this new endeavor. My local shop has the stuff but the owner always seems to be "bothered" by all my questions. (Probably doesn't help that I ask questions and never buy anything.) My next plan is make a sump/refugium tank. I'm looking for help on what else I need before I actually get started. I know live rock & sand. I've researched cycling. But I'm not sure of what size/power pumps and such I should be looking for. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
PS: Sorry for the long post.

Hi. I am George Goss. I live in Valley Center, California.

I am currently building a starphire glass 210 gallon reef. I have a son that is two years old and want to have him enjoy the hobby I have loved for over 10 years. I am at the point of doing the plumbing while I finish staining and sealing the cabinet doors and top. I am also waiting for my Diablo DC 10500 return pump to come in. I have decided to stay away from LED's except for a moonlight strip and go with T5 lighting. T5 lit tanks are some of the most beautiful I have seen and I don't feel the need to have "lightning storms".

Hi RC

Hi RC

Hello! My name is Isabella and I'm pretty new to the reeding hobby! I started with a 12 gallon nano cube in March and quickly grew out of it so now I also have a 24 gallon aquapod. Reef central has helped me out so much and everyone's advice is so helpful, so I thought I'd introduce myself, hopefully I can be able to gain some knowledge or share mine!

Thanks!
Isabella

Hi I just joined RC and am new to having a saltwater tank. I had a 46g bow front with a canister filter. (switching over to) I just got a 120g w/55g sump set up with 2 mh and a bubblemax 2500. This is my first tank of this size. I want to thank everyone that has posted. I have got more info from this page then I have from the fish store that I have been buying from.

New to RC and 12 weeks new to SW

Hi all! Just wanted to say hi... We are new to the hobby. Having researched and saved for several months, we now have a 38gal nano tank... We have 2 snowflake special clowns, a randalls goby with a tiger pistol shrimp, a stripe fanged blenney, a baby blue tang, a pom pom crab, emerald crab, 7 blue leg hermits, 3 turbo snails, and 1 or 2 sand sifting snails, a ghost shrimp, a green open brain, button polyp, green crown leather, blue and rainbow ricordia, green star polyp, red zoanthid, xenia, and frogspawn. Oh yeah and blue tuxedo urchin. We seem to have lost our two peppermint shrimp over the weekend since we added the emerald crab and urchin. Afraid that if they went to molt that ghe pistol shrimp attacked them but our water parameters are no different. They were very active and we saw them all the time and now nothing. We have lost 2 mushrooms and a rainbow ricordia to the pistol already. Is it possible they just went in to hiding or might they be dead? Thank you for the forums and all the help they have proven to be in the journey of creating an ocean in our house.
