If You Are New to Reef Central, Introduce Yourself Here!

I have been a member since 2003 but this is my first post. I guess I am the ultimate lurker. The site has brought me a lot of useful advice throughout the years and I figured I should start actively participating.

Hey, my name is Luke I am new to this site and new to reef keeping in general. I have been doing consistent research for the last three weeks all over the web and I'm finally ready to begin setup after purchasing all the equipment. My only experience has been in freshwater up until this point, but I am excited to begin a different phase. I have purchased the following;

Cadlights Artisan II 50g aquarium and stand
Cadlights sump, protein skimmer, and refugium light
AI Hydra 26 with EXT mounts
AI Director
Eheim 150w heater
Other stuff includes - RedSea Coral Pro salt, Caribsea crushed substrate, RedSea Pro test kit and supplement pack, Deepwater refractometer, Magfloat cleaner, Python No-Spill, nets, etc., etc.

Now I see why people say this hobby can be expensive!

Just getting started!!!!

Just getting started!!!!

Hey my name is Matt and I have been keeping freshwater tanks for years but I somehow was able to convince my wife it was a good idea to start a reef tank. Im pretty busy with starting pharmacy school(reason for my name) and have another kid on the way that I cant wait to share this hobby with. I started buying stuff for a 46 bowfront which magically turned into a 110 gallon tall this year. I hope to be up and running within a month or so which will probably be the time I get my new quiet drive MP40's!

Hello all, Eric here. I am completely new to the hobby. My wife have been talking about getting into the hobby together and I have been researching and reading a lot of information. We are planners by nature and enjoy this aspect of the hobby already. We went to the LFS tonight and truly enjoyed the experience.

We are thinking around 65g for our first tank with beginner fish and corals. We both like the idea/look of a 18" wide tank, so that may affect the volume a bit. Also looking into a RO system for drinking water and aquarium water supply. Finally I think we have settled on our finished basement family room for DT with the sump on the other side of the wall in our utility room.

I am looking forward to conversing and interacting with this community. See you all around.

I'm not really new I had a login here several years ago but I forgot what it was. So here I am. I've lurched awhile but didn't participate. That's not really my style generally!

Hello! I'm new to the forum. I've had ZERO experience with saltwater fish aquariums but have been reading up lately and likely getting into the hobby soon.

My wife and I love animals. We have 2 dogs and 2 cats. We've had a snake before and a couple of Degus. We've both been wanting to do an aquarium and I figured why not go all out and get into saltwater.

Well mostly "all out". I think we are going to start simple with a 55 to 75 gallon FOWLR tank. May be a couple months for we get it up and running, but I really appreciate the wealth of information I've found on this site and will be reading up.

Hi everyone, I'm just getting started with a pico that's inspired by the PJreef, only I'm using a punch bowl that holds around 1-1/2 gallons. I've been doing a lot of research and I think I'm just about ready to start stocking.

Hi Everyone,

I've had a 75 reef tank set up for several years now, and through a move and a lot of learning by mistakes I feel that I'm finally moving in the right direction. I've gotten a lot of advice from many of you without you knowing about. I jump on here and read your insight quite regularly. I finally decided to jump into the forum so I could help others avoid some of my mistakes. I also want to be able to ask some "advanced" (that term is super relative) questions. And, I also want to show off some of my own accomplishments every now and then. I would not be where I am with my tank today if it weren't for all of you. Not that I have a tank that'll compete for Tank of the Month, but it's mine and I enjoy it very much. So, I just want to say Hello, and Thank You!!!

Hello Guys,

This is my very first post and tank, I'm more green than seaweed.
I bought a Biocube 29 as my first tank. For now I dont think I will use a skimmer, and will probably just invest in an additional pump instead before I get the fish/coral,inverts in. I am going out later today to get base rock for it and play with that until I am satisfied on the structure (using epoxy to keep it together) that I will put in the tank. I will probably put it in before the Crushed coral, probably keep it at 1". I am looking forward to learning lots on here as there is GREAT info on here.

Hello all, my name is Mike and I live in Branson Missouri. Been in the hobby for about 7 years. I have used this website for a lot of research over the years and figured it was time I started posting on it and quite lurking.
Thanks.

Hello all! I started with a 55g aqueon tank that I initially used for cichlids, and for about a year I have been reefing with it. I had been using a fluval 406 (purigen, pura pads, carbon), 4 bulb aquatic life t5 fixture with ATI bulbs, 60lbs of fiji pink substrate, and about 80lbs of fiji premium live rock all with great results. Unfortunately it sprang a leak at the base a week ago (almost a total fish/coral loss) so I am getting a Perfecto 90rr with a Monterey stand. I plan on getting the Aqueon Pro-flex model 4 sump since the stand has no middle support in the front, with an Eheim 1262 pump and a Reef Octopus skimmer. Can't wait to get started again!

Hello from London Ontario

Hello from London Ontario

Hello,
My name is Paul and I'm from London (Canada). After 20+ years taking care of freshwater fish, my son tricked me into buying couple puffers... and from there we ended up converting everything to marine...
We are just setting up the aquarium after extensive research and discussions.
I am glad to find this wonderful forum as I have tons of questions and the more I read the more interesting it gets....

Hello My name is Chris and I am new to the forum. I am looking to set up a 110G tank and am looking for a good skimmer for it. What does everyone think of the vertex omega 150? will it fit my needs?
