Hi, my name is Jon and I am a newer member of RC. Finally got my first saltwater tank, first tank period, up and running this past week and thought I would officially introduce myself. My tank is a 29 gallon sumpless dimensions 30x12x18, with hang on back skimmer and refugium. I realize this probably isnt ideal but I'm active military so I needed something that could be transplantable in the unforseable future. Lastly, I wanted to say thanks for all the great advice and posts. Your knowledge and advice has officially made my dream a reality.

Hello RC, my name is Rick & I am new to the hobby. I started a small 20 gal. set up for
the grand kids, a month ago & am already ready to get bigger. Just have about ten to fifteen pounds of live rock, a few snails, blue legged hermit crabs a candy cane & a pipe organ coral. I also inherited several brittle stars. It is so relaxing to sit & watch.

HI. I am new to the SW hobby. I have been an active hobbyist for the last 1 1/2 years. I have a 40 gallon Breeder community tank (mostly Rainbow Fish and Discus), I also have a 120 gallon Cichlid Tank (Blood parrots, Gars, Green Terror, Blood Jewels, ETC). Lot's of success, very few failures, mostly due to doing my homework and applying what I felt was best practice by different experienced hobbyist. I am extremely excited to jump right into my SW tank. So my aproach to this has been to make sure that I do as much homework as possible and do what I felt was the best practice out there. So I am pretty much done with my initial setup, so here goes:
I have a 92 gallon corner tank. For filtration I am using a 29gallon DIY Sump/refuge. I am Using A CPR CS202 1500GPH capacity Dual Overflow, with an Aqualifter. For Return I am Using a Mag 9.5 return pump. I built my return line with 1" PVC, 1" true union ball valve, 1" true union check valve, to a 1" TEE then reduced to two seperate 3/4" lockline with 3/4" flare nozzles for water distribution. I also built a Bypass line in my return line back to the drainge area of my sump. I placed a 1" ball valve in the Bypass line to control flow. I am using a Eshopps PSK-100 HOB protein skimmer, (I liked the way it looked, great reviews, and I could afford it), placed HOB of drainage compartment of skimmer. Also, have a turbo twist 18 watt UV sterilizer built with seperate plumbing of 3/4" pvc with 3/4" ball valve to control flow and it'own powerhead. Hanging on side of drainage compartment of sump as well. I have two 1" baffles following drainage compartment with a built in 1" split about 4" above the sump floor for immediate water flow in to the fuge and then a 1" baffle right before return compartment. I had to do some custom to the stand to make this work for me and make not visible. I have a 24" Corallife double T5 for lighting for the fuge. Did some custom work to fit it inside perfectlyu over the sump. For lighting I am using a 48" Quad T5 Lighting system With Built in controls and timers. Custom hanging kit so that it floats freely abouit a foot above the tank. I am also using a hanging Metal Halide pendant fixture also hanging about 1.5 feet above tank towards corner/ rear part of tank.
This is what I have done so far.... Feedback Please.
This week I will be setting a JBJ ATO system with an RO/Di Sytem feeding RO water to my reservoir to my tank. Also I will be setting up A return pump kill switch in my DT to prevent overflo of DT....
Any other suggestions to make this a more complete system?
Note: I will not consider drilling my tank in any shape way or form. For those of u who always recommend it. lol Thanks anyway.......:headwally:

Hi, I have about 1.5 years of experience. I tried to kick the habit after a big move forced me to give up my 75, but it didn't last long and I figured I could set up a 20 long for next to nothing since some of my equipment didn't sell. Well that didn't last long either because I quickly realized I would need at least a 40 breeder and then I would finally be satisfied 
So I've been planning that lately and it's been taking quite a bit of my free time.

I have been in the hobby for about 2 years now with success in my opinion. I now have a 90 gallon fowlr tank with 1 blue tang, 1 yellow tang, a coral beauty, a fox face, 2 clownfish, and 4 chromis. I plan to upgrade to a 180 gallon tank one day or at least do a full blown reef system in my current tank. I look forward to get well acquainted with all of you guys here at reefcentral and I hope I can help as many of you as I can!

hi I'm John I have A 125 w/ a 55 sump/fuge been running for 1.5 years 3 mo on the fuge. I'm looking for what everyone else is the best protein skimmer for the money. (sea clone is what i have) I have several soft coral and two hard that seam to be ok, but I would like a tank w/ 0 nitrate and able to put any coral I would like in it. I know getting my nitrate to 0 is more complex than just a skimmer. I'm not overfeeding or have a high bio load and I have about 150 LBS of live rock plus the plants in the fuge. I've been looking at the reef octopus skimmers b/c it seams like they are the best bang for the buck am I wrong? Not new to aquariums,but new to posting so please forgive me in advance. Every tank is unique all suggestions on what skimmer i should buy are welcome.

Hello, my name is Scarlett. I have had a 30 gallon long saltwater FO tank for about a year. I have been keeping it going by myself, which as everyone has always told me, its harder to take care of a smaller tank :uhoh3:. My dream has been to have a huuuge tank (for a little easier care), and i want to feel like i am never at my limit of what i can put in. I always see something else i want to put in! Yesterday my dream begun. I had a 265 saltwater tank installed! I want an aggressive tank, FO. Maybe one day a 150 reef. For now i looove the fish i have so i still want to keep my 30 gal but its a pain in the a$$. I need some suggestions on low cost but quality maintenance for at least my 30 gal (as silly as it may seem). I am in South Florida (Broward county)...any ideas???

Hi my name is Hans and I am a fish junkie. I just registered the other day, but I have been using this site for info for a couple of months. Have a 125 mixed reef tank. Started as a FOWLR but bought some fish at a store that I have had bad luck with (I know shouldn't have went back) and my tankmates were dead within a week and a half (really mad about losing my lion), so I decided to start over with a reef. I could use some help on with my corals. I actually got lucky and aquired about 30 corals and some great fish/ inverts for a really cheap price (friend of my brothers) who was unable to keep his tank. Most of the corals look like they are doing great but the monty and a leather don't look like they are. Also one of the favia's has a spot that looks like it bleached, and the monty is getting a white ring around the edges. I doubt it is from the light (72 inch 4 bulb CF) or heat (75). Also all my water parameters are fine, the calcium is a little high (540). Any ideas on what it could be please let me know, really don't want to lose them. Thanks

Hi Chris, nice to see some one not to far from me. By the way nice wins by RU (basketball and football). I actually am a conductor for NJT so I see a lot of your fellow classmates on my trains. If you can afford the LED's, go with them (cost less to run and don't make your tank temp go up). Seachem make a good salt, mixing levels are really acurate. Also if you need items for tank check craigslist, there is a lot of people in north Jersey area with stuff for sale. I also found a guy on there who just opened a store in Hoboken on 600 Park Ave (it might be Park Street). You can walk there from Hoboken terminal. Good luck with tank, let me know how you make out with it.

I've only been in this hobby for about a year. I've learned a hundered things NOT to do but i guess thats part of the curve. I got my start when I took my son to the LFS and he wanted a clown (classic right).
beginning: So i searched craigslist and got me a used biocube, after cycling with live rock and sand and some frozen shrimp i quickly learned about water quality, lighting, filtration and most of all what kind of animals i should have when i was ready. After a few months, a couple Chromis, Clownfish, and a Talbot damsel were added one by one every week or so, and i was happy for a while. A light burnt out in the hood and the cover was rusted to where i couldn't get the thing off, i was forced to break it to replace the light, then due to being exposed the fixture went out. It was some off brand so i gave up looking for replacements.
Current set up: I'm now housing my animals with a 54 gallon bowfront aquarium with 10 gallon sum and small skimmer. I can never seem to leave the LFS owner alone, buying all the little things I need to make my fish's ecosystem right.
I am still very new to the hobby and have a lot to learn, im still only doing FOWLR because ive still yet to stablize my tank. either an algae bloom, or I add a new piece of LR (adding slowly because its so expensive), have an algae bloom, evaporation problems, algea bloom, sump issues, did I say algar bloom lol.. but that's why its a hobby so I have something to do!!

Hi all. I'm new to this site but not to sw. I have had tanks in the past and am gearing up to build my own. It should end up around 170 Gals. I figure it will be about a year before I actually get the wall unit built and ready for the tank. I'm intending to do a reaf and this part is new to me. If you all don't mind I could use all the input that I can get. Thanks in advance for all your help.

hello RC. My name is Mike im new to this hobby with around a year of experince.It all started for me when my son brought a gold fish home from the fair so 3 FW tanks and 2yrs later i needed to do something diffrent. I bought a 75 gallon w/OF and started my first reef tank. I can say its a life style lol. Ive been keeping a couple LPS corals now and needless to say im running out room.So im getting ready for a new upgrade to a 220 gal coming soon. Sorry for rambling on this is a great site ive used many times in my research and im glad to have joined
