Great resource.

Great resource.

Hello Reef Central!
What a great resource for a first time reefer like me. I have been a freshwater hobbiest for 40 years. I look forward to stepping up to the reef keeping hobby!

What does it mean when someone "bumps" a post?? Am I just stupid??

Basically this site has so many members when a thread is started it can easily disappear due to the shear amount of posting, bumping the thread gets it back to the top of the list and doing this gives the thread a chance of being seen by members who would normally not get the chance to see it due to the amount of new threads being started almost by the minute.

welcome to RC by the way, great to have you on board.

Hi all..Have a fresh water 55 gallon with an Angel and some tetra. Been able to maintain it well for a while so the wife said I could start "looking into" salt water applications. Any suggestions where I should start? I learned from my fresh water that slow as you go is a good rule of thumb.

Thanks

Noob saying hello!

I somehow wandered into the marine section at lfs recently, and got bitten by the colours, activity and variety of marine fish!

As a kid we had an FW community, but then nothing for the last 20 yrs. I currently have 2 FW tanks, 1 lake Tang community and another single species malawi (breeding like mad). Anyways I have had these 2 up and running for about 5 months. I had a spare 20g sitting here so I thought why not! Well then yesterday I decided to buy a 40g long instead that I am now in the planning stages of.

I've spent the last week spending all of my spare time studying up on the marine side of the hobby, and can't wait to actually mix that first saltwater. Tank arrives this week sometime, then I will be painting the back and going from there.

Hi all, my name is Drew, I'm in Cincinnati, Ohio.
I'm extremely new to the hobby, but have wanted to start one for a long time. A friend is going to give me his 29 gal tank so I thought this would be a good time to start. I haven't purchased anything yet, just trying to learn as much as I can before I do. So I'll be on here reading as much as I can. I think this is the most informative site I have seen so far. Anyways, I hope to get started soon, so any advice would be GREATLY appreciated! I'm basically starting at ground zero right now

Thanks :reading:

hi

hi

my name is jeff. though i have kept fish for many years, this is my first reef. i hope everyone will be patient as i learn what i need to know.

Hello world.... Decided to finally join since i have been using this site for research while getting back into the hobby. I have been contemplating getting back in for quite sometime now. The push i needed to setup another reef was this - One day my son <8yo> said he really wished he had a saltwater tank. I told him if he read a few books and showed some real interest that i would make it happen. He started bringing home book after book reading up in the corner all on his own. So for Christmas i bought him two scientific books on corals and reef tank keeping, and told him you better start learning now i am getting us a tank. He lit up brighter than the tree. He has struggled through the big words asking me every 5 min "dad how do you say this.". And so our first joint project was born. We now have a 58 gal Oceanic RR Tank as our first project. He has requested a flame hawk "because they are reef safe dad, and i love their personality" and "a blood shrimp because they will clean the fish and eat the dead skin off my fingers" LOL! so our adventure has begun. We are currently ~3 weeks into the cycle.

Hello Folks!

Hello Folks!

Hello,
My name is David. I have been "lurking" on this site for while.
We had freshwater tanks when I was a kid and I almost bought a SW setup in 1989 just before the earthquake (whew, that was close!).

I have always wanted a Saltwater Aquarium and hope to set one up in the near future. My four year old son loves fish and aquariums. So, I am researching SW in hopes of starting a tank that will be a joint father-son project. My research consists of visiting websites, reading and visiting local fish stores.

Maybe I'll start posting questions soon.

Hello

Hello

Hello everyone!!!

I am so excited to be hear and to learn how to properly care for my fish tank. I had it for about 2-3 years now and I know that in that time frame i haven't been doing everything correctly for the health of my fish I lost some fish and inverts in the past, but hoping to learn some new and correct methods to hopefully add more to my tank and eventually move to a bigger one.

Now and the future I would like to thank everyone for your help and suggestions.

THANKS and Glad to be hear :D !!!!

Hello!

Hello!

Hi Everyone,

I am new to the hobby. I have been wanting a reef tank for several years and I had finally bought a tank and accessories. Since I am inexperienced (have a betta fish and a snail lol), I purchased the Oceanic Cube system (29 gal) that has everything (or so they claim) built in. I have been reading the threads set up for newbies and have found the info very useful. I will, no doubt, need advice with the set up, but, being a professional chemist, I am confident that I will understand the water chemistry... actually that is why the hobby appeals to me -- it sort of allows me to "do chemistry" at home.

Thank you in advance for any advice and for your patience!

Ewa

Hello RC, new member to this site, Jason, and I'm excited to learn more about the whole reef aquarium. This is my second time attempting an aquarium. I previously had a 55gal set-up that was just starting to thrive after upgrading equipment, then Hurricane Katrina hit. And now I'm just getting back to it again, but have downsized to a 29gal due to space.

Hello everyone.

I am just starting out and I have never messed with saltwater aquariums before. I have a 125g freshwater tank I am converting. Mick from Avarium in Duluth, GA pointed me to this site to help me get started. I purchased a Eshopps refugium R-200 w/pump and PF1000 overflow box for starters. I am in information overload at the moment after reading through some of the sticky threads. I want to build a hood for my tank and enclose the bottom to keep my carpet monster out of the tank and refugium. Hopefully I haven't bitten off more than I can chew.

I love the final stages of building a tank, you're almost there, be sure to start a thread documenting your progress and success.

Take a look at this section of RC, you may find others in your area that are in the hobby as well.
Good Luck

idk where to put this but if you move to the correct forum, i will appreciate it thanks josh

I do not have anything yet. Reading what I can and hoping to find a used 100-180 gallon system on Craigslist to help buffer the initial cost. I've been thinking of starting a SW tank for years. Some friends just got into it so now I have that extra push to jump in---well not jump in. I have a lot to learn and think about so I am in no hurry. But if I find something worthwhile I will buy it and let it sit until I am ready. I think my first purchase will be an RO unit. I am in Illinois near St. Louis if anyone has any advise or equipment for sale---let me know. Thanks.

Howdy!

Not completely new to RC, but been lurking for a while. I've a had reef tank for the last 15 years, but my current tank is in what I guess I will call, survival mode. I had a 30 gallon tall with a custom built MH/CF canopy with a nice collection of soft and LPS corals. Unfortunately it was met with disaster a few years ago when the tank spontaneously sprung a leak and I ended up losing all of my livestock. However, I did manage to save the live rock and sand.

My current tank is a 72 bow front with just a few zoa's, mushrooms, a green trumpet LPS, and a pair of Amphiprion ocellaris. I need to build a new canopy for the newer tank as I only have the hood from my 30 gal just sitting on top of the 72 gal only covering half the tank. Total slacker. My tank has been mediocre for prolly the last 3 years and I'm only doing just enough to keep everything alive and healthy. It's kinda embarrassing. I got a kick in the butt this weekend when I went over to a buddy's house and saw his spectacular 110 gal reef tank that I didn't even know he had. Seeing his tank has now given me the bug to get my tank back up to the place where I know I can get it. I was also really amazed by how out of date my knowledge is too. WOW!! The hobby has really grown with its technology and ideology. I am really looking forward to getting back into the hobby again and relearning what I thought I already knew.

Thanks in advance Reef Central!

Hi all,

I finally joined RC so this is my first post! I just started my first tank (AquaEuro USA 34AIO) in July. I've been perusing RC non-stop and now can't wait to share and be part of a great community!

New here. This is my first post. I have a brand new 28 gallon Nano tank. I take that back. I ordered one, I don't have it yet. I dabbled with the hobby back in the early '80's, did badly, quit. Lots new since then so I'm hoping for success this time. I work, I have a corgi who is my best buddy, and 2 cats who sort of like me sometimes.
