Help

Hello RC. My name is Jim, and I am from Rhode Island. I am totally new to the hobby, and in fact, haven't even gotten my tank yet....my Wife will be giving it to me for Christmas. I am getting a Coralife BioCube 29 Gallon tank. I have had fresh water tanks, but have always wanted to try salt water, so I'm going for it, and am taking this time to learn as much as I can. I have to admit, in watching some videos, and reading some blogs, I am a bit overwhelmed. It seems daunting, to say the least. I am totally lost to this point, having never heard of some of the equipment, like refugium chambers, protein skimmers, etc. Also, it seems there is so much to learn regarding the different chemicals needed, how much, and what kind of light is needed for different coral, what kinds of fish, coral, etc., can coexist with each other. In short, I am starting to wonder if I shouldn't have asked for a new golf club for Christmas. If anyone has some advice, or tips, they would like to impart on me, I would be extremely thankful. Anyway, thanks for having me.

Hey everyone. Long time lurker of the site so I finally decided to join. 23 and living in Jax, Fl. Not completely new to saltwater. Had a Biocube 12 and also a 90 that crashed after losing power. Excited to start a 20L at the beginning of the year.

Starting a FOWLR for son for xmas

Starting a FOWLR for son for xmas

Hi All,
I have been educating myself and thought it was time to join the community and get some feedback on what I am planning for my sons xmas present. He is twelve. I have purchased a 36 display tank with an overflow that skims from the top. It has two drains. One will drain into a 10 gallon sump which has a protein skimmer, the will drain into a separate refugium (15gal.) which will drain into sump past the PS. H2O will all be cycled back to tank with 660gph submersable with two outflows. Going to use cheato in refugium. The tank has a standard florescent bulb and using incandescent in the fuge. At least this is my initial plan.

Hello. I'm new to the reef world so I thought I'd pop in here and say hello.
Question: I have two pin cushion urchins. One of them I can't get to let go of its grip so I can't put it in the tank. How do I get him to let go so I can move it in?

Hey i am new here and just got a RSM 130D im really looking forward to setting this thing up and getting my reef building process started. Is there anyone local to Harford County MD on here that could shoot me a PM about setup?

Hiya folks! My name is Sean and I'm a reefaholic.

Have been reefing a little over a year now. Have made some dumb mistakes, have learned some and have a lot more to learn.

I'm on my second tank now, a 58g mixed reef, plumbed 'herbie' style (thank herbie) that's pretty much on auto-pilot. I like DIY LED projects, aquarium controllers, hot girls, fast cars and long walks off short piers.

Cheers!
Sean

Hello everyone,

My name is Tom and I'm from Southeast Michigan. I'm so new to this hobby the only thing I have is a book titled " The reef aquarium science, art, and technology" by J Charles Delbeek and Julian Sprung. My wife is to blame for this, she wanted to get a fish for my son for xmas. Of course she mentioned how she'd like to have a salt water tank. I started sticking my nose into it a bit. I seen my first mixed reef with fish on a you tube video, and it would appear I have found a new hobby for myself. I'm going to read the 6oo plus page book mentioned above, and swim around this forum for info. Looking forward to meeting and talking to everyone.

Overflow Help

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hey Reefers, Im very new to this . Im setting up my first saltwater reef aquarium. Trying to read as much as possible and not make too many mistakes. Im going to try and set up a bean animal overflow on my 180 glass tank. I will have to use an internal overflow box and do some drilling. Im not afraid. Anyway my concern is light. I dont want the overflow box to block my lighting. Can I get some input on my possible solution. Im thinking of a 1" to 1 1/2" box inside the tank on the back wall and an external box with my drainage pipes outside. Im hoping three or four bulkheads connecting them will solve my issue. Any feedback?

Hi everyone in RC....I am a newbie and am interested in starting up a saltwater tank. I have 6 years with freshwater and feel that I want to do saltwater also. I know I have a lot to learn but that is why I am here. I have been studying up for about 2 months and hope that in about 4-6 months I will have learned enough to get started into this new world that is so beautiful.

Hello everyone. I use another forum as well but trying to expand my reading as this forum as a ton of info. Starting a new build shortly 100 reef savvy cube

hello

my name is gerardo i am only about 8 months into the hobby started with a 90gallon with built in overflow its a reef tank lots of corals and now ive ran out of space and since i have to move the tank to the living room ive decided to take advantage and make an upgarade whithout telling my wife anything i just purchased a 175 gallon oceanic bowfront with a sea life reefmaster pro 200 refugium:o cant wait to set it up and their is so much info on these forums they are great help hope to meet alot of peaple here exited to see my tank soon in my house.....

Hey all,
I got into this because my buddy who had an awesome 150g tank had left over equipment from his sale when he moved. He has moved back and I started a 30g as a fresh water with 5 neon tetras, woohoo.

I found that 30g had a leak in the top and only ran across it during a water change. So went on kijiji and found a guy selling a 45g (size constraints to the stand 36x13), the tank was $50 and is in good shape.

Got 40 lbs of live rock and have been cycling it for the last 4 weeks. Still have really high ammonia in my tank so waiting...waiting....

Kids are excited to get some star fish, and some clown fish. Want to get some cleaner shrimp and a sand sifter or two plus some corals. Great but expensive hobby. Weee.
