If you owned Orphek...

I don't have a pr156. I have one of the 100w spots by them and two of the p38 bulbs and the moonlight. Re: pricing....I got the 100w spot during the "summer sale", so it was pretty reasonably priced vs say an ecoxotic cannon. The par bulbs I all got used, so they were also reasonable vs the competition. The pricing is WAY out of line. The par38 are very nice vs the other bulbs I have (nano tuners, ecoxotic, no name, wingoled) and have the most output (also draw most wattage). The moonlight is frankly the coolest moonlight I've ever used....that being said it is NOT worth the retail price. Retail pricing is ludicrous. I would say that they sold me the dif 100 as a 60 deg and it "looks" like a 60 deg lens. The stuff has only been over the tank for a month or so and I've been doing a lot of "other" fiddling with the tank, but the corals (mixed softie, lps the odd sps frag) seem to "like" the light. Lots of polyp extension, "fleshy" healthy look to things. We will see. I don't have complaints about the "look". Too soon to comment on longevity. But the pricing is just ridiculous at retail.
 
The pricing is ridiculous at retail and that is a function of the importer more then the manufacturer. So there was a built in incentive for people to puff up the product and denigrate its competition so they could make more money by selling more units and I'm sure the profit margin is pretty high.

its all lies ...

when you email and ask them about their product, they reply you with a Philosophical answer ! this shows the company is SCARED to give out info on their product. Im in the same line of business ... electrical ...

Wow, that's a strong statement. Mr. Wilson is a very well respected member of this community and he and Peter went through LOTS of lighting options before selecting the Orpheks and you just wiped that out in one thread. I am a member of that thread and am offended that you have denied his processes and belittled what he has done in the interest of bashing Orphek again... really??? Peter would switch to a better lighting if he tested and found one. Money was not a factor in any of his testing and work. They went for the best practice on everything else...why would lighting be any different.

Shame on you.....

the same people come up in all these threads bashing Orphek....why?

1. I am not bashing anyone, I work in electrical field, and answer to an electrical question is a number, with a data sheet, not an essay. that is all I said in my post.

I never disrespected anyone for you to be offended. and if my opinion offend you, then you are taking it personal.

I did not see vertex or other LEDs being tried there ...

and Id like to say again that I am not bashing anyone, nor have I before, so please provide proof for your sentence reading :

Are you serious? You really don't know why they are getting bashed?

You just find out that the independant reviewer of Orphek products actually worked for the company and his reviews were bogus. It was obvious to me that he not only wrote the reviews, he wrote the entire website. Look at the writing style, the content. The Captive Aquatics blogs articles were linked from their own website.

Now I understand why Casey Anthony was set free!

The implication of this line is offensive. Peter has been very involved and forthright with his search for the best practice and you tried to make him look like a sucker....the results speak for themselves and there is a lot of good in his build and top it off with the fact that he is a stand up kind of guy and extremely humble.....

Moonpod.... I understand your comment and I am not offended...I was more just talking about the equivalent pricing....and I really do miss that ML7...

Yeah... I actually started this thread with the best intentions - NOT intending to troll anyone (or any company). I was trying to get peoples' opinions about what they would do to improve the light - because it helps me compare/contrast features on one light versus another.

It sounds like Orphek could use a better marketing staff, at the least.

I don't know why lighting is such a passionate portion of the hobby....

Maybe someone can shed some light on it for us......
