I'm back from FL

Looks like I missed a good frag swap. Lots of new threads to read.

We fished like crazy but if it weren't for bad luck we had no luck for the majority of the trip. Only one cooler full of fish with a day or night on the water for 7 days. No more FL August fishing trips for me.

We did limit out on lobster during one trip. I got a nice 5lb hog snapper on the same trip (dumb enough to give me 2 attempts to turn off the safety on the spear gun). I really noticed all the fishes and corals we have in the hobby this time. Water was murky so to find lobster you had to grab hold of LR and stick your face in the hole/shelf/monti head. We got about 5 lobsters from under one 6' head that was mostly encrusted. I never saw a blue, purple, green, etc SPS; only browns. One almost poked my eye out (twice). Fire coral and I bonded. Urchins and I shared body parts. And I must admit I have many, many battle wounds incl a stitch in the lip from my own stupidity ~ rigging up leaders in the AM and I had a short tag end of line so I bit on the tag end of the line, put pliers on the hook, and stretched the leader to tighten the knot. Hook slipped out of the pliers and my left hand continued to yank the hook into my lip. Not thru, unfortunately or we could have cut it and run it through. Many other set backs but the lack of catch wasn't for a lack of effort. I cant wait to get back to work so I can catch up on my sleep.

Sounds like a pretty crazy trip. That story really made me laugh. While I read it I couldn't help hearing the clown music played at the circus! Sorry you didn't have more luck with the fishing. Glad you made it back in one piece, although with some scars!!

Randy, I didn't even mention that we almost sank the boat in 90' of water. Anchor rope was only 135' so we couldn't get the angle it takes to slide the ring down the anchor which releases it from being stuck in the rock or whatever it's caught hold of to stop from drifting. We powered the boat with the anchor rope tied on the bow like we always do - and it always releases (in shallower water). Well, we took 2-3 big waves over the bow because the rope/anchor was pulling the bow down (the boat was only 17'). Rick starts screaming CUT THE ROPE, CUT THE ROPE. As I'm trying to cut it two more waves wash over me and into the boat. I got it cut and we are over ankle deep in water. We limped it in. It took 45 mins for the bilge pump to pump out all the water.

I can laugh now, but I was pretty shaken up at the time.

Don~ You're definately a dangerous man to be around... lol I left my drain plug out the last time Ashley and I went out on the Clinch... About an hour later I realized it and was bailing water out of the boat with a Pepsi bottle with the top cut off... :D

I just got my camera back from my buddy. Here's a couple pics
