Hi mike here's a new piece of cameras set up

Mike I am curious about your skimmer? Can you give a run down on why the change from the beckett? I can think of a few reasons but want to hear yours?

Joe, from all I can read, some do, some dont.

Steeldeep, When I'm ready for cameras, I'll get in touch. I like what you've done!

Eric, the pressure pumps required by the becketts were too loud for my wife.

Thats right I remember you posting that. How did it work though, were you happy with the performance? Did it require a lot of tunning? I have mine going in my garage so I don't care about the noise but some day I might care about the watt consumption of the pressure pump

You are holding off on the FTS I am sure whne we get one it will be sweet...hehhehehe

Eric, the skimmer was very easy to tune with the Orca pump. I'm going to play with a couple of things to see what happens, but it seems to be working just as well as it did with the becketts and Pan Worlds.

My camera does not do a good FTS. It's not a very good camera. I have to get so far away to get a FTS that it lacks any detail. All of the good FTS in my thread were taken by others.

Do you have the j tube mod on the inside where it comes out from the orca pump? I am glad to hear it wasn't a bear to use. I think everything should get a little tlc now and then so cleaning it monthly is not a big deal for me..

Yeah I know what you mean about camera's...

All I can say is WOW!!!! I would love to have a tank this size one day. Excellent job!!
Thanks, it is a ton of fun!!!
Adam, come over with a good camera and take some pics.

The skimmer mod is working out far better than I could have imagined. I'm getting almost twice as much skimmate and it's much darker than before. I thought the tank temp seemed lower as did the temp in the room, but I was waiting on a new temp probe for my AC3. Original one failed a couple weeks ago. I got the new probe yesterday and the end of light cycle temp was 80.1 degrees F, which is 2.1 degrees lower than the average end of light cycle temp of 82.3 degrees F. I went to my shop today to get my infared temp tester to verify, because I wanted to make sure that the probe was calibrated the same as the previous one, and it's exact, so it seems that there is another benefit to the Orca.

I also have a female Genicanthus lamarck in the QT. Thanks Joe for the delivery. Thanks John and Jennifer at FAOIS for another quality fish.

I've been dealing with a patch of bryopsis for a couple of months and recently it started to spread. My NO3 is undetectable on both of my test kits (Salifert and Red Sea) and my PO4 is 0.02 on my Hanna photometer. I did some reading here on RC and some other sites and got some information from John at FAOIS. Here is my course of action after reviewing all the information that I found.
1.) Change filter socks twice daily. Previously changed once daily.
2.) Clean skimmer neck every other day. Previously once a month. It's usually pretty clean since I skim wet.
3.) Reduced feeding by 1/3.
4.) Started dosing Vodka, 5ml per day. My parameters don't indicate a need, but the Bryopsis is getting nutrients from somewhere.
5.) Removed carbon from reactor and added GFO. I already have one reactor with GFO. Once again, parameters don't indicate the need, but I don't want to miss anything.
6.) Started raising my Mg level. I'm shooting for 1750-1800. It was about 1460 when I started. I'm using Kent Maring Tech M. I studied a couple of threads here on RC and on other sites that documented the success of this method. I mentioned this to Dan, a local reefer, and he told me about using this method with great success. Dan also gave me a gallon of Tech M to get me started.

Any other ideas???

What is your Alk at? I just did some research for you and noticed some success with elevated Alk levels. I have no idea if this works for you or not. Also do you think something might be leaching into your tank causing this? What TDS is your RODI pumping out? I just had a RODI issue and it browned out a few corals and had a diatom bloom.

Thanks Chris for helping out!!!

My RO/DI tds is 0. Just in case, I replaced the prefilter, both chloramine filters, the ro membrane and the di resin.
My Alk is 10.6 dKH.
I'm not using anything in my system that hasn't been used before in others system, so I couldn't imagine anything leaching into the water.
