Sara B...I used the foam with the extended nozzle...no mess at all. We had no problems putting it on. Put it on thin...it will double in size overnight!!!

Thanks for the recommendations! I am also going to try and attach some LR ledges into the wet foam for future SPS frags!
 
Just found your thread. That thing is a beast! Very nice! And I thought moving my 115g from them was tough. Can't wait to see the progression...
 
sd your tank looks amazing man.. nice rockwork, i like your flow too not much in the actual aquarium as far as pumps go.. go Bare bottom lol, i wouldve done it myself but i went for shallow sand bed for the look.. yours looks really nice though
 
Nice setup. Wish I had the knowledge, money and space to do something like that. If I ever get chance to really go SW, I believe I'll be looking into a metal stand. I love the stand and have friend and 2 brothers who can weld. I always tll my brothers they got the building skills from our dad and I got the looks. :lol:

I have 1 question about it though. I notice the top part sits about 1" - 2" above the tank with no kind of support besides the back bracing. Once you have installed lights and the paneling, are you worried about the extra weight causing some problems and possibly bending the support? Or are you going to put some kind of spacers between the top of tank and the canopy to help support the weight?
 
Well...I did some more plumbing this weekend. I have one of the OM 4-ways finished and I connected the 3/4" loc-line to the sump return and the right side OM 4-way.

Mike - that looks so cool! I take it that you have your plans written down or are you the type that just starts putting things together? How much planning would you say you've put in it so far?

I love the foam back - very different. I might try it with a 29 G that I'm doing just to see how it looks (future reference) :D.
 
ReefArtist..I wrote down what I wanted to accomplish, as far as tank size, flow, filtration, lighting wattage, based on my goal of keeping sps and fish, and on lots of automation for dosing, reactors, topoff, water changes, light schedule. I studied many large tanks here on RC and in person since my first reef started in 1997. As I figured out what I wanted, such as Dart pumps and OM 4-ways, loc-line, foam back, dual beckett skimmer, etc, I would add them to the list. Then I buy parts and pieces as I need them to fill up the time allotted for construction that month. I got serious about this project in May, and after a trip to east Africa in June/July, I got started. I expect to put the first fish in the tank in April/May 2007. I'm still in the planning stage as I build. I haven't decided on which calcium reactor setup, what po4, o3, and carbon reactors I will use. I'm close to decided on which ballasts and bulbs I will use, and I still have to build my sump/fuge.

i was going to upgrade to a 300 wide but cant fit it into my basement... there tanks are great for their prices...

I finished the top side plumbing, and 3 Darts are on the way. More DIY rock curing in the pool. I need to get started building a sump. The only new pic:
