In need of quality online articles....PJ Cardinals

papagimp

COMAS Rocks!
I've had mixed success and failures with my Bangaii pair breeding and raising the little babies, I'm sure in the future I'll get much better at it as I upgrade setups and learn more. But I would like to start looking into breeding the PJ's as well, both cardinals are beautiful fish and I was hoping breeding and raising would be similar. Any thoughts people?

and just for giggles,... I call this guy "tiny"

What's he got in his mouth?

FWIW, check out my Apogon leptacanthus breeding log...should be similar in difficulty to pajamas. Farthest I made it out with A. leptacanthus was 45 days post hatch.

You should also check my Greenbanded Goby breeding log - those actually "made it". If/when I try to raise my A. leptacanthus again, I'm going to do it as close as I can to the GBG (i.e. 1L fresh live phyto per day, SS rots + copepods as possible).

lol, that is an adult brine shrimp in his mouth, he's the only one of the babies willing to tackle an adult, the rest just go for the newly hatched ones.

I did read through that breeding log., beautiful fishies. I havn't seen many cardinals besides the PJ's and the Bangaii's, since I love their finnage, but those guys rocked!

Sorry to hear only 45 days on them though, "Tiny" there is right at 2 months old in that photo. He's one out of 5 that made it this long. i originaly had 12. They released more but only managed to get 12 out of the display in time. And my second batch I only managed to get out 3. he spit them out earlier than the new tank was ready for em, kinda sucked but my female is already pestering him to spawn again, lol. She's such a little fish nag that way.

I have plenty of grammarus shrimp in my display tank, there a decent sized amphipod so I figure I'll try to get a culture going of just them. The Adult Bangaii's seem to love em when they can catch em. I know my mandarin sure does.

Thanks for the response! i enjoyed the Apogon Breeding log.

I would think a better food item to culture for your young bangaiis would be Tiggerpods (Reed Mariculture is the main source for them, a lot of LFS's are starting to carry their products).

FWIW,

Matt
