Indoor saltwater pool

Hey guys i am about to set up a 300 gallon round saltwater pool,i have 4 banded cat sharks that i will put in there when it is set up and wanted a stingray to add also.i was going to add a blue spot but i heard they never survive very long in captivity so i looked more toward a California Ray. Has anybody ever had success with these rays for Long term,any help would be greAt,

I hope you seriously reconsider keeping 4 sharks and a ray in a 300 gallon tank. There are plenty of threads here about keeping sharks from guys that have been doing it for a long time. If you have to ask these questions you are nowhere near ready for this kind of setup to be successful.

The banded cat sharks are baby's,they were hatched from eggs about 4 months ago,i have a freshwater stingray and he has been alive for 3 years,and i know everything about how to care for the fish i just wanted to know if anyone has had success keeping a California stingray.

NO ONE knows everything. Even the experts are continually learning.

There are lots of rays from cali, you are going to have to be more specific

Anything out of cali would probably do best in temps around 50-70F, but you probably already knew that right?

I knew that they liked cooler water i was thinking of making it around 74-75 to make both the sharks and rays happy,I'm not even

Part of learning is constructive criticism. If you can't absorb both, there is no point in asking.

What do you expect is going to happen when you say you are going to put 4 cat sharks in a 300 and mix tropical and temperate species?

Compromise isn't going to work when dealing with two species that have a need for such different temperatures. If you keep a temperate fish in warm water you reduce the amount of oxygen available to it, if you keep a tropical fish too cold you slow its metabolism and weaken its immune system. Not to mention that enzymes cease to function when outside their intended temperature range. Either you keep the animal at the appropriate temperature or you don't keep the animal.

I have seen threads like these before, never end well. As the others have said 300 gallons is way to small. If you want to keep sharks get them a tank that they can live in. Not just keep them until they are to large.
Also, I am not an expert on rays (although I did have two blue spotted ribbon rays), but mixing them, with the sharks...in a pool.... might not be the best idea. I can't speak about mixing the two species of sharks and rays that your talking about because I don't know them.

Ok thnx i think im gonna wait till i have enough money and ill get them a 600+ gallon pool,and i will probably just stick with the sharks

Well I don't have any cat shark but I have a above pool which I use as pond. I have other kind of fishes but not cat sharks so can't help you. But I think it sounds great.

Really that's interesting..that we can grow these fishes in pool.

Look into a cortez rays or yellow rays. Check out the care guides at Shark Ray Central. Do you have a link to which pool you are using?

Cali rays are indeed an animal that prefer low 70's compaired to the upper 70's to low 80's the bamboo sharks will require (BTW - they are not catsharks). You can meet in the middle for temp and have them together.
Most small benthic rays (like Cali, Yellow and Cortez) do well in small shark mixes. The trick is to start small and minimize aggresstion during feeding.
A 300 pond will work for the bamboo sharks for awhile. The advantage to a typical pond vs a 300 gallon tank is that the pond has a larger foot print and will offer better gas exchange. With the proper filtration, a set up like that can last several years for you.

Reminds me of the big LFS store that used to be open in Latham, NY. Back of the store was all glass and faced south. First thing you see when you walk in is a 220 with 4 Nautilus. I could not believe it. I was like wow guys, selling a deep cold water animal?...and keeping it in a sunlit area...w/o cooling? WTG. Then i looked closer. They were all dead. Dead and rotting. I was LIVID. Three idiots owned that place. I proceeded to walk upstairs to where they were, read them the riot act, left and never came back.

There are some things that do not belong in captivity. The worst part is, is that many of these 'do not keep' animals are readily available at the LFS.

No, sorry, they were definitely NOT sleeping lol. They were stone dead and looked to have been left in the DT for days after they died.
