I have a single small yellow tang in a QT right now, and I was thinking about ordering some macroalgae from IPSF.
The tank he's in is a 20L, which will be a sump/refugium for a 29, probably in about 2 months.
I also have a 10g that only has 1 domino damsel, which is keeping some sand alive and feeding a pop population for me.
My tang is blind in one eye (injured during collection/shipping, so he was really cheap), but otherwise very healthy. He is a pig if you're feeding flakes or mysis, but won't touch pellets, frozen Formula 2, or dried nori of any color. I was hoping the live stuff might be more appealing. He may be ignoring the other stuff, because the QT has been up so long from other fish that it is more of an algae bottom than bare-bottom, and he eats off it all day.
My question is - would I be better off to wait until I set up the 29 and refugium to buy the algae, or could I put it in the 10g for now & tear off pieces to feed the tang (then move it once the 'fuge is up)? That 10g only has a 15w flourescent on it right now, which I could double if necessary.
I'm pretty new to this, so any thoughts would be appreciated.
