Insect Hunting During Lunch

I head out to Centennial Park during lunch time to take a look around.

There are plenty of flowers and bugs everywhere (lucky I remembered my insect repellent). A few hours later, I got a few decent shots. The conditions were pretty bad due to strong wing that almost never stopped and I think I got a bit sunburnt. I will need to remember the sun screen next time!

All these shot were taken with the Canon EOS 10D + 180mm f3.5 macro + 580ex flash with the exception of #12, which was with the 24-70 f2.8.

Most of the shots were shot from a tripod and with flash to fill in the shadows.

Those shots are exceptional. I particularly enjoy the dragonfly pictures. Thank you for sharing them with us.

Fantastic photos! We've just come through our second snowstorm in three days, so it's good to see that there's color somewhere in the world.

Thanks!

BTW, my daughter's second grade class is going to do a unit on insects in a couple of months. Would you mind if I printed your shots as a teaching tool to help the little nippers out? Especially as I'm starting to think that we'll never see an insect again.... :)

Thanks!

Well, since I haven't heard from you, I'll assume that it's not okay to print them. And, of course, that's no problem.

Thanks for sharing your fantastic photos!

Andy. sorry for not replying, usually PM is the best way to bug me :)

I am happy to allow you to use the photos for educational purposes, so long as photo credits are given. Drop me a PM and we'll work it out.

I really hate looking at shots like these...It makes me realize how bad my photos are. :( :D Very nice shots.

Louis,

Great pictures, I see that you can photograph things other than your awesome nano tank :)

(You got my vote for nTOTY BTW)
