Introducing two potters angels

Hello,

I have a healthy and what I believe to be a femle potters angel. I would like to add a male. She is already in my display for about 3 months with a flame angel and she is definetly the boss. Although the two do co-exist very well with no nipping. Just the occassional chase by the potters.

My question is, I would like to add a male potters. Is this impossible now that female is established? Or can I still add a male since they are seperate sexes?

I don't think you are going to have luck doing that, they will probably kill each other. You might be able to find a place that sells a mated pair, but then you need to remove the one you have.

I thought all centropyge angels do the whole dominant = male thing? What makes you think yours is a female? I was under the impression that your best chance at pairing is to add two very differently sized individuals....

From what I read, I was under the impression that females have alot more orange coloration on them as oppossed to males only having the head area orange.

it would have to be a 3-4" male atleast. I have pretty good luck pairing them up after collection, but "mated pairs" are few and far between since they form harems in the wild.

yes, pretty much. The ultra tiny ones are good to use as pairs, but a 1-2" with a 3-4" usually works out well.

But the tiny potters are sooooo cool. Like zemuron114 said. A small and a big is the best way to pair up centropyge.

I should post some pics, the one I have now is about 2.5 inches.

So is the info on that website incorrect? The amount of orange on a potters has nothing to do with sexing them???

The reefkeeping article or whatever, also explained that some of the Centro's are capable of changing sex. Not sure if Potter's are named, but definitely would add a small Potter's if you wanted a 2nd.

As far as I know all centropyge change from female to male. Opposite of clowns which go from male to female.

males will have much more blue in through the mid section. females will change to male when one is needed in the harem.

the tiny ones are wicked cool but they are tough to pair with larger ones.

I've got a nickel sized one that is currently by herself, but I won't pair with a bigger one until she grows more.

Here's a pair I tried out some time out. The large male was rather big, well over 3" and the little one was 1.5"

Several years back I had 3 potters, 1 large and 2 small, they all got along in a 15g tank, but the 2 little ones had to seperate in 20 g for quartine. All three were added at the same time to the 150 g and got along fine.
