Is 3/4" bottom pane tempered?

Do you guys think that my tank (bought used) and looks custom, not deep blue, marineland, etc. has a tempered bottom? It has 3/4" glass all around and bottom. Im thinking to enlarge 2 of the holes from 1" to 1.5" for drains. I tried the polarized glasses with lcd scree trick but could not see any lines. But i also tried that trick on my cars side window to test and did not see them there either. Not sure if im doing something wrong.

Anyone that takes a guess wont know for sure. The only way to know for sure is to do the test you mentioned. otherwise its just a guess.

Dont know about the tempered thing John, but i have heard that trying to "expand" holes is riskier than drilling new holes. Just what ive heard, no evidence.

If there is a chip of any size on that bottom pane it's not tempered. Most custom tanks are not tempered. Hope it helps

The more i think about it im more inclined to just use all 4 holes as drains. 2 - 1" drains and 2 - 1" emergency drains basically a dual herbie system. And ill just run the return over the top. Didnt really want to do this because im not really going with a canopy and didnt want "stuff" hanging over the rim of the tank. However, with the height of the tank being at eye level, you really cant see the back rim of the tank unless your pretty tall.

Hey John,

Thats exactly what we are planning for our tank - dual herbie with 2 drains + 2 emergency drains. We are also canopy-less, but I am hoping that if the pvc at the top is black, it wont be so noticeable.

Yea i looks more and more like thats the route i will be taking. its not 100% that the tank is not tempered so i really do want to take that risk. Also, herbies are supposed to be quieter than dursos. I think that 2 small 3/4" PVC elbows coming over the top painted black wont be too bad.

Problem is i already ordered the 1.5" bulk heads and matching glass bit online last week. lol. hopefully someone will be willing to buy it from me. Otherwise ill just keep it as a backup.
