Is It just me or Is this club board turning Into just a place for every stray person with a tank they don't want to get rid of It. And then argue about the prices listed for the Items sold. I'm surprised the mods have not chimed In on the etiquette of all the complaints leveled against people. Seems the club Officers are MIA in whats going on here with new posters that question peoples motives even after they were told otherwise In private messages.
Some people wonder why the board Is dead lately! I think because there is nothing good to talk about here at the moment unless you want to buy or sell something.JMO

I agree... There used to be alot to talk about of things people were up to with their tanks and ideas they were trying out but now every other thread is someone trying to sell something....
 
I'm with you bill. I been on more ather forums here on RC. Like sps,lps,diy and so on. Some people on are club forum here on Rc and in are club are a$$ when you want to help them and tell them about the rules that RC have in place.
 
Yep. I will suffice it to say the club has gone downhill for multiple reasons. There are a lot of people who used to be on this forum who had a lot of insight who I'm fairly positive just don't want to deal with what the club has become, and quite honestly, I'm growing to feel the same way.

And that sucks for the people that dont have ALOT of knowledge and would like to learn more about the hobby.

Yeah I can go online and find everything I need but it's nice to check this forum and talk to people from around the area that could lend a hand or vice versa.

I mean when I set up my 95 I had never plumbed a tank before and John (Gsusfreak) took time to help me go pick out what parts I needed and helped me to get it all running....

I mean he was the 1st person from the club I met because he gave me a couple of frags to get me started and we have helped each other since.

I dont think there is much of that going on anymore and there should be.

What's the point of it being a "club" if the only thing you get out of it is the store discount.

There are people around that still help but not as many as there used to be that's for sure..
 
I agree.

I've met a few great people that I like talking to on here, and made a great hire by posting on this forum, but there's not many people here, really. The discount doesn't do much good for me since I buy most things online or from individuals, and I can do that without being in the "club."

More activities, meetings, etc. would be great. Heck, even just throwing together a barbecue for a weekend, everyone BYOB / food without it being formal to sit around and gab about fish and coral, have some beers, etc. would be cool every now and then.
 
i still hit up some of the other forums here, but seems like every time i come in here, it is just selling threads LOL

since i am leaving for basic training in a few months, i am not even interested in stuff for sale at the moment LOL

life in general has been hectic w/ moving to a different apt when my lease was up recently, so i've missed several meeting. i plan on getting to the one coming up though :)

anybody needs help w/ anything tank related, just let me know.....i got nothing but time on my hands LOL
 
Hi from Cali. Just to let you guys know its not just TN. A lot of Cali reefers feel the same way or at least are going else where to mingle online.
 
well i think part of it is economics.....crappy economy + impending holidays = tanks get broken down & sold or they become much less of a priority

Well Bill I would like to know what you mean by club Officers being MIA? I would also like to know what you think we should do with people have disagreements with each other on this forum? Should we get the common denominator banned? As far as the amount of selling on this board I would agree that there has been a lot of selling of stuff on hear compared to the amount of other treads. The question that I have for you is it because the number of for sale threads have went up or the other threads went down?

If it is the first why? Is it maybe that some people are making rude comments to posters when they post something? Or the feeling that you don't know anything because someone post that you have to do it some way?

If it is the second then you have as much authority as I do on this club if you see someone abusing the selling of things you can report them to the mods. Of course I would be careful because the mods may also look to see if there is some other reasons for the report.

I know I as an officer probably don't post as much as I should mainly as I hate to type and would rather talk to people which I do. I also like to meet people face to face and have people come over which they do from all over the area. But I will tell you that I look at the post( at least the ones that do not start with FS).
 
i know the fact that i don't have a tank currently or am or will be in the market for anything tank related for awhile hasn't stopped me from perusing the DIY & Lighting forums to offer up advice to questions posed.....use to do the same in this forum, but i don't see many of those posts here lately. most seem to be FS threads....& i don't even open those LOL
 
Well one thing that is nice about the new rc look I was able to look at all my post that I started and saw that I started 3 total for sale threads in the last year and one was for the BBQ sauce from SD. I guess one can judge for them self if they are selling more then the are contributing?
 
One of the reasons i dont care what goes on here when it comes to selling things is, well, the main reason i love this club is because i like getting info. reading info, or just talking reef or anything with people i can put a face on and drive a short distance to see, meet ie. club meetings, help, etc. So, you know, i can post all day long in the sections on the main forums page, but, i always do it here, because I like getting information from people i feel are friends and i can put a face on. Makes it more personable. I know it might be frustrating when alot of people keep posting stuff here for sale, but, i mean, dont let it get to you.... the only thing that gets to me is the rediculous prices, dont know what they are thinking, but, they wont get them anyways , so, let them dream!lol
 
The club is only what the members make of it, much in the same way that RC is only what the folks that post make of it. There have been a lot of selling, but when questions are asked they get answers. Just because the selling posts outnumber the questions does not make a bad club or RC forum, again it is just what people are doing now. Let the economy turn around and I would suspect the questions vs selling post would turn around.

As far as club officers are concerned, I can only speak for myself, and I check the RC board just about every day and also the MTRC web page forums. I post when I can offer some intelligent comments, (well helpful comments maybe :) ). I am sorry to hear that some of you are being disappinted in the club, but then again, new elections are only 3 months away. I also hope those that think we should do more will step up when the frag swap is here, which has been the case in the past.

If you have questions, then ask or pm me, I always try to help other reefers when i am capable as I'm sure most of you also do. I am in no way an expert in this hobby, but can only pass on the information that I have accumalated in the past 3 yrs, which is a very short time.
 
I know some times the prices are out of they don't know what to ask and they look at a store price and then go a little lower. That is understandable but there are some people who try to make a profit on everything after a while I think they burn out and will go on the wayside or people stop dealing with them. I do not like selling on here as I am too lazy to post pic and prices of everything. I also do not like selling things as I so not like setting prices on things so in the most part I just through a bunch of corals in and price them around $10 a frag and give some other stuff away. That way I get to sleep at night. I know I have seen people try to sell aptasia and also price zoo's at $30 a head, I just hope I never gave them the corals that they are selling.

One other comment about having other activities I would hope everyone knows that they can have a get together at there house at anytime and post it on the boards I know some of us in the boro get together and do things, but maybe we should post some more about it but it normally is a last min deal that we all have some time.

And so all who read this thread will know I do not mean to bad mouth anyone but will not stand by and watch other people do It without anyone saying a word!!! I was hoping to solve this without reporting It to a moderator, If your content with PM,s being posted publicly with out the senders permission then I guess we all better watch what we say privately.

Well I thought wrong when I thought the club officers had any control over what Is said on this board by club members. Even If It breaks written rules or otherwise. Sorry for any one that may have been offended, Seems I got It all wrong even though all that was said Is absolutly true. I wish things were different on this board but they are not so I will go my own way as I did for many years B4 this club.
 
I dont think anyone is offended, i mean, this is a discussion forum....we are just discussing opinions!
