Is anybody out there ?

I check on the forums pretty much everyday but I don't post nearly as much as I used to. I used to be very active in the club and made it to almost every meeting for a couple of years. A lot of good friends have either moved or gotten out of the hobby since then and I had some tank problems so I basically let the tank go on autopilot. Several years ago I had a tank I could be proud of with SPS practically growing out of it. Now I have a few frags that I am struggling to keep alive. I think the last meeting I went to was the joint MTRC, NTRC meeting two years ago. :eek1: I have been meaning to make it to another but it seems they are all late Sunday afternoon in Murfreesboro or something. Hard to make it to those when I have to get up early on Monday. I am going to try to make it to some though.

As far as the comments about MIA officers and us watching these boards we are not in charge of policing this forum if anyone violates the rules you can report them as I can the mods will look into all of the complaints equally. I would hope though we could be more civil and just send a polite pm too the person who violates the rules. I think this whole thing could have been avoided with polite conversation. If anyone has a problem with anyone else I would be more then happy to try to help.

Also if people do not want to read all the for sale threads they do not have to open them as I don't alot. If people want to talk more about reefing ask questions or throw out an idea to talk about I do not like to type much but most of the time we do get some discussion. I also don't mind posting some things funny, but you have to be carefull on that as the mods some time don't have a sense of hummor and they get tuchy on political and religous stuff. One of the things that is a big no no is posting someones pm's the mods will really ge mad if you post one of theirs. As I heard one of them say a pm is private not to be posted.

I do agree that a PM is just that...private. All of this comes down to a lack of common courtesy for one another. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but none of us have been given the right to act like jerks. If someone wants to try to get top dollar out of their coral so be it. You can only be angry at yourself if you pay those prices and are not happy with them. Yes, I have added a few items for sale like most everyone else, but that is one of the things this board is used for. Knowledge, corals, freinds, and equipment are the reasons I have joined this club. Who better to get these things from than local people that I do, and you should be able to trust. In my opinion this all could have been avoided very easily. Now, back to business, who wants to buy my 55 gallon setup for $3000?.....just kidding. :D

Hmmmmm Where should I begin. I read all the comments and started not to even post but that isnt being fair to me or anyone else. I try to be a person that when I speak people will know Im telling the truth, fair and that I dont pop my mouth off just because someone has ruffledd my feathers. As far as the posts go I would agree with James some that the economy has affected things. The for sale threads I like because its gives everyone a chance to save money (excluding some) on equipment or livestock they may need. As far as the board members go Im not getting involved in this forum if two people have a disagreement with words, opinons etc. If it were in person and someone layed a hand on someone yes I would step in whether I got my tail kicked or not but on here no that is what the Mods are for and I can assure you they do their jobs. Posting someones private message I think is pretty shady if the orginal poster wanted it public they would have posted it that way. I have made alot of good friends on here and have alot of great memories. Ive ate dinner with many of you, sold you corals, equipment, as well as bought things from many people on here. As far as questions being answered on here I think the vast majority get addressed. If I can pass along what I have learned Im more than happy to do that. Now I have seen some people do the exact oppisite of what is suggested sometimes and they pay the price for it but aslong as you know that youve told that person the right thing to do and gave them different options with their problem and it goes wrong youve done all you can do. In short Im here for anyone who needs help one thing that everyone must be mindful of is though when your trying to help someone they have to be willing to help themselves. If someone thinks Im slacking on something or done anyone wrong by all means bring it to my attention. Overall I think the club is great and have seen no problems but apparently there are some things going on Im not aware of and would love to be filled in if the club members think something should be done. I wish all of you the best and if you need anything shoot me a PM.

Dang, people getting all emotional. Is must be that time of the month

I think there is a natural division among members. It could be because of age, education or their way of communication. To expect others to conform to a particular ideology is foolish. Other should act a certain way to make you

feel better? Kind of selfish no? lol

Its also foolish to think that all rules will be followed in every case . People will have personal matters that could affect the way they manage this hobby. People will always act towards their own self interest regardless of what

rules are imposed on them. We're not talking about breaking the law here so i dont know what everyone is getting all worked up. Encouraging honest and open discussion to resolve an issue would be more fruitful than trying to

attack an issue.

If you are frustrated about this hobby, that means that you havent done enough self reflection.

Mike you could host one and we can come up and see you it has been a long time.

That is another thing. Last time we had a meeting here I think 4 or 5 people showed up. We had a good time but we had leftover BBQ for a week. Maybe when the tank gets better we can have one here again. I know some of the members have small electric RC planes so maybe we could have a meeting/funfly in the backyard. :bounce3:

Dude, for RC planes, I would make the meeting and bring the beer unless out of town.

That reminds me, I need to get a new RC plane together soon .... I can hear the 4 strokes purring already ...

The bigger an organization gets, the more likely people there will be people in it who disagree. Combine that with the fact that each member begins to feel that their contribution is not as important (or perhaps that they even don't have input) and you end up with a certain amount of apathy. Add in a little bit of economic woes (I sure don't buy/sell/trade/tinker as much as I used to in part because I can't afford to and therefore don't have a lot of new stuff to post) and the need for a lot of people to sell off their tanks, and you quickly wind up with dwindling discussion and interest in all of the things a lot of us really like about being part of this group.

My own apathy lately has been a combination of all of these factors, but above all it is simply a lack of time to keep up with everything the way I used to. As such, I don't have a lot of other input on the situation around here.

In any case, one thing I've kind of always thought would make this club a lot better (that was mentioned in this thread) is the idea of having more random social events throughout the month between meetings. I've made friends with a few people in the club, but I can't help but think I would be a lot better friends and more willing to help a lot more people if we shared some dinner and a beer over trivia at the Saucer (or some other pub-like place), had some burgers and dogs in someone's backyard without it needing to be a "meeting", or just had a few more events throughout the year (the trip to Sustainable Aquatics was a great chance to really talk to some people).

The problem is, I don't think we can hold the board responsible for not having these kinds of things arranged. They do quite enough just keeping everything going (a lot more than I think most people realize). And really, all it would take of any of us is throwing up an invite on the boards.

Being a tighter knit group off of the boards can certainly not hurt the online discussion...

I tried my grandfather "in-law's" RC flight simulator and continuously biffed it (he's big-time in it, one of the last times we were home he had built a huge F4U Corsair with retractable landing gear and all that I was totally drooling over). I always thought flying would be a lot of fun, but I'm pretty much afraid I'll spend the money to get a plane for two minutes of fun only to spend a bunch more money and time fixing it. Of course, I love fixing things...

I agree 100%. I much prefer having a relaxed get together over some brews, have a barbecue, etc. Without an agenda, it really helps to break the ice and get to know other folks.

Zach, don't even drag me into this! :D

 We can talk about planes a bit tomorrow when I get back to the office

Economy also has a lot do with it. Luxury goods are Income elastic, when the income goes down and inflation rises, the demand for luxury goods goes down.

This hobby is a pretty good example of that. The oppotunity cost of this hobby is much higher for some people.

If it is the first why? Is it maybe that some people are making rude comments to posters when they post something? Or the feeling that you don't know anything because someone post that you have to do it some way?.

I'm quoting you on this Wayne. I SOOOO agree with this part. I'm saying this to some of you members here. When I was trying to do something to help the club cut cost a while back if you all remember when I was being shot down and called names and so on. That's about when I stop coming in here as often as I did before on a daily basis. Some people on here are just quoting themselves when they start blobbing their mouth off about something someone else did when they did it themselves once before. Same with the club meetings, I don't participate as much as I used to just like some of the older members that I have spoken with, we were tired of "know it all" members on here. BACK down people! Some of us like me have been doing this for awhile, maybe not as long as some, but we're not stupid! Like someone else was saying "It is a discussion forum" I've said that before, but was shot down as well. Some of you just need to back down and stop complaining. Maybe we can become a better club without two faced backstabbers and immature idiots, etc etc. Grow up people!
