Is Ecotech no longer support older style MP60?

I have a flashing red/green MP60 that sometimes start and sometimes don't, which I narrowed it down to the dry side problem. I was told by support that Ecotech don't fix them anymore and direct me to Ecotech Store to spend $350 for another one, which isn't cheap you know, this is not how you treat your out of warranty customer.

If this is true, shame on you Ecotech. Check Tunze, they still support their 10+ years old product.

If every time a product died, the only option is to replace NOT repair/rebuild then one surely have to think and choose carefully when choosing which product to buy for their system.

One sure thing I know is EcoTech brand, the first 3 letters stands for neither Ecology or Economy.

Why send in something that can't be fix? Isn't that a waste of time and postage? Most man made object in this world that built, can break, and can be fix, it's the people that choose not to do so for various reasons. To buy a new unit when the old unit broke (after one year) isn't exactly support, hence the question I originally asked or should I rephrased to "Is Ecotech don't support their product after warranty period?"

Hoping to hear from other members about their experiences getting a dry side MP pumps fixed. I have issue with my MP60s (I own five) that I was asked to send the pumps in and after EcoTech inspected the pump they quoted me $500 price to fix three of my 5 pumps plus shipping cost. They returned the three, one fixed and two with totally bad noise and they are still noisy after the fix. One is worse than the second... I am asking for proper repairs or return of moneys and original parts they kept.. The one they fixed is most likely the one of my three that burned out after two days of use ..

I was charged to repair three of my MP60s pumps and I was never told that, and I quote from above... " ...We have never been able to repair any dryside regardless of it's age... ". Had I been told that I would have saved myself 5-600 bucks.. Live and learn... Just bought two gyre 280 to check them out and replace my noisy MP60s. To be fair, they (MPs) did last three and a half year in my 500g DT and I liked the concept of MPs.

Something's odd because every time I have inquired of ETM, they told me they do not repair dry sides (or wet sides for that matter). They'll take in a non working unit for diagnosis, but if something is bad you have to pay for a new part. I know with the MP10, they don't have any more of the older dry sides, so you have to replace the old white driver with a new QD one at the same time. Perhaps that's true for the MP60 as well. I realize it's only a sample size of one, but my MP60 is ticking along just fine after 4 years. Key is not to get any water or salt in the dry side; if so it's quickly toast.

Here is about how it started in Dec 2016.. I ended up sending in three of my five pumps for repairs. They called me (or emailed not sure but more likely called) and said repairs will cost $500. I accepted that cost to repair all three pumps wet & dry sides and drivers.. Whether they fixed the problem by repairing or replacing, I am not sure which... but what I got is an unacceptable extremely noisy pumps . They now seem to imply that I switched the repaired pumps with my two other pumps. Which would be fraudulent and not the case.

Understood and I wished for a better outcome. I did and still do like the performance of those pumps. AND it is possible that my setup (done by professionals) that bought and installed my system for me ended by having a less than perfect position for the dry side.... Thanks Simon as I always appreciate your input.. We all learn from each other ..

I’ve sent in two drysides that needed to be diagnosed. Both times they informed me that they do not service them and that they would need to be replaced. I was disappointed that they did not repair the units but they always offered me a discount.

Good to know. When was that done (timeframe) ? and did they return your old unit if you purchased a new one? as the old may or may not be useful for spare parts, in either case it is good to get back your old part.

The last time I sent a dryside in for repairs was April 2016. The old dryside was not returned.

I will tell you that I have taken a few drysides apart - both mine and a couple friends. One of them seems unable to actually keep them dry which results in interior corrosion and they are not fixable. A couple of other times bearing replacements fixed them. Easy enough as a DIY project.

Is there any information on what the failure modes are? In the case of bearing noise they are (at least in my case) replaceable. The shafts were pretty ugly (poor surface finish in original machining), but functional otherwise.

I have had one where the cord was rubbing the magnet, I could see that causing a short, but it's curable if there isn't other electrical damage and you re-insulate.

A failure in the windings, or a highly corroded magnet would likely not be user repairable.
