Is it possible for a carpet to be getting too much light??

Hello all,

I recently acquired a 14 inch red carpet and it's not doing so great in my tank. First of all I bought it when it was still in the bag at the lfs so I wasn't completely sure it was 100 percent healthy. But I did purchase it because I trust the owner and he said it looked pretty healthy when he bought it at wholesalers. Second the carpet was in the bag for a long time before I bought it ( I say 6-7 hours).

Now I have a 50g tank with 400w HQI DE 20k and my tank is really low at only 10 inches tall. The top of the carpet is probably only about 12 inches away from the light. I was wondering if maybe the carpet might be receiving too much light? Especially when it's not 100 percent healthy? The carpet right now is doing it's usual thing when getting acclimated. It's shrinking and expanding but I know it's not too healthy because the mouth is open really wide. Would it be better if I maybe somewhat give it less light...so it can acclimate better?

I would say that it is getting too much light right now. With the stress
of just being shipped and the amount of light you have. I would suggest putting some window screen over your tank (3-4 sheets) and remove a sheet a week.

That is what i'll do tonight when i go home. Thanks for the suggestion!

Has anyone purchased a unhealthy carpet and then nursed it back to life? I'm wondering what the chances are that this carpet will survive....
