got a xmas wrasse a few days ago and so far all he likes to do is keep buried....

i found him 2day cuz this is the end of the 2nd day of keepin hidin hes alive and looked ok but as soon as i fished him outta the sand he went right back and re buried himself

is he guna be ok and is this normal to stay buried for so long

thanks

Lots of wrasses like to bury themselves as camoflague. As long as he comes out to eat, I think he should be okay.

give him a few more days. Is anything in your tank chaseing him when he is out? that would be one reason he is hiding.

Halicoeres ornatissimus? Or something else.

I bought a leapord wrasse a while ago. Put him in the tank. He went to bed the same time as everyone eles. Next day, hes out fine. Day after, nothing. I dont see him for a good 3 weeks. Then out of nowhere, he shows up again, looking hungry. He eats mysis. Goes back into the sand, is gone another 2 weeks. Comes back out and eats more mysis, then is gone for another 2 or 3 days, now hes coming out every day and staying out, but if I put my hand in the tank, he dissapears.

So, give him/her time.

yup thats the species alright

yeah so far still hiding it was alive last nite i looked for it in the sand and it was buried but its still not out again today

i just didnt want it to die in the sand and never be found

so it seems like these guys are kinda skidish for a while huh

Ya they are...I had a xmas wrasse and loved him. Lost him due to "old age", at least that's what I tell my self.

Soon, he should change his clock to your lighting. Mine would get up around 11 and go under at 930 on the clock..quite amazing (internal clock).

They will eat like a pig :)

thanks for the input im getting worried over here i hate losing fish and especially nice ones like him/her

Does your Xmas wrasse have black dot(s) on it's dorsal fin ? We bought one that had the dots, like fishbase and everywhere else said they should. But there was a second one at the LFS that looked identical, except for no spots. While at the store I thought it was age related, but checked when we got home and it does not appear to be from what I have read. We had ordered the wrasse for one of our tanks, and when we saw that they got in 2, we started considering the second for one of our other tanks. But we really just want a Christmas Wrasse for their know behaviors.
