Is my male clown a Perc?

So about a year ago my male clown jumped tank and died. I replaced him with this male clown. Was labeled as an Ocellaris Clown at the store. He stood out in a whole tank full of clowns because he had a lot of black on him. So obviously I chose him because he looked cool. Thought I would snap a few quick pics while I have them in a QT being treated for ich. I think he may be a Percula. It doesn't matter to me either way what he is, but I'm just wondering out of curiosity. He does seem to have more yellow around the eyes than the female does.

Pics aren't the best but here's the male.

Here's the female. She's definitely Ocellaris.

He looks Percula but he's got a black eye, Perculas have orange eye with smaller black pupil in the center. I still want to say he's a Percula

The male looks very much like a Fancy Ocellaris. I have a pair.

I was thinking this also, the pictures aren't that great but need to see the eyes. If surrounded with orange it's a Percula if all black its an ocellaris. I think I see the orange in the pictures just not positive. Hopefully the OP comes back with that answer.

Yes his eyes are surrounded by orange. That's what also led me to believe he was a Percula. But it's just the outer edge of his eye that's orange, the center still has a lot of black in it. Could he be a Ocellaris/Percula hybrid? Or do you guys think he's just a Percula?

It's a cross between the two for sure. BUt I'd call it Percula

Hey where do you live in Iowa? I'm about 45 miles east of Sioux City.

Well that's confirming my suspicions on him being a Perc then.

I'm from Lake View. It's about an hour east of Sioux City. We are in the same neck of the woods.

Yep I know where Lake View is. Do you know a guy name Mike Hart? He grew up there but now lives in Cherokee?

Yes it is a Percula, both of mine have black pupils and orange around it. That is how I judge which they are. Takes too much to try and count the spines on the dorsal fin LOL

Yeah I tried counting the spines and he just kept moving and it was almost impossible lol.

I don't know him. I'm not familiar with any Harts from the area.

Hey we should keep in touch. It would be nice to have someone nearby to swap frags with. I don't have a lot at the moment but in the future it could be a possibility if you're interested.

Hmm. Here is a pic of my male when I first got him a couple of months back.

LFS stated "Fancy Ocellaris". Maybe I should change my signature lol !

Here's a more recent one, a week or so ago and he's blackened up.

The thing carrying two snails and a portion of the sandbed is Bunny the Blue Tuxedo Urchin.

That's a beautiful clown as well. My guy has more orange around the eyes than this fish does. Not saying it can't be a fancy ocellaris but the orange around the eye makes me think mine is a Perc.

Cool right on. I need to check that out. Is his last name Stevenson by chance? If so I used to play in the band circuit with his band TFF back in the day. I used to service their tube amps for them too.

That would be him! His cell number is on the web page.

That's definitely an Ocellaris. My LFS just got a shipment of Occy clowns and two of them look exactly like yours. This group is wild caught and came from the same region (I think Philippines). Here's a pic
