looks like the shape of a regular snail shell and usually comes in on zoanthid colonies as a hitchiker. it makes my zoanthids close up, any idea's if hes good or bad so that i can yank him out or let him stay. thanx everybody. its small like a 1/2 an inch or smaller. any advice appreciated.

Most likely a sundial snail. Pick them out as soon as you see them! They eat zoas and multiply somewhat fast. Dips dont really work on them so best method is picking them out. And this is if its a sundial snail, do you have any pics?

thanx everybody for your kindness, it was indeed a sundial snail. he had the rattler on his behind. i yanked him out and in to the trashcan he went.

lost a large 4-5 plate of yellow zoos last month. On one of the several freshwater dips I did I had 12-15 of them fall off . Too small to see what they were with the naked eye but did see that's what they looked like under a microscope. At the time they were probably1/16" of a inch across. I'm sure there were more on the piece. Been trying to find out what they were till now. Thanks, now I know.
