Is there anyone who can do a positive IDA on algae?

It's Dr. Goodluck Himself
Lab or expert preferred.

At wits end after a year. Losing everything in my tank. Does not exactly match either GHA or either bryopsis. Need professional ID...

I would check for universities with marine or aquatic bio programs. Many will have professors or students happy to help.

Here are recents.

while I'm no marine biologist, that looks a lot like a type of Turf Algae...
I had a similar type in my DT and started running NPX BioPlastics which significantly reduced the amount overall...I am down to a couple of minor clumps...

Looks like a turf algae I have had, and trust me I have probably had everything from red, green to brown and I see light at the end of the tunnel.... I have been running PO4X4 in a dual BRS reactor, and running enough to apparently take care of 2k gallons of water.. Couple weeks into it, changing it almost weekly, I'm getting rid of just about everything now.

Hope you get it taken care of.. Good luck!

If you haven't already tried an army or turbos, they took care of my turf, and the turf in two other friends' tanks.

I had the same stuff and the only way i could get rid of it was a Hydrogen Peroxide bath. One or two dips it just die off and never came back.

Sent water samples to AWT and Triton, and algae sample to RC-er in Guam.

Will report.

Meantime going to start bioplastics.

I have 2 Jaebo powerheads in my tank that the same stuff grows on. It doesn't grow anywhere else, so I've been leaving it.
I don't know what it's name is, though. Did Bill have an answer?

That is how mine started.

No reply from Bill.

My WP's definitely fueled algae growth for the first year, but not this type. I am curious to see whether the algae they make grow in my system returns once I scrub them again, as it is time for a cleaning.

Dr Goodluck, have you removed the pump(s) that this nasty stuff started on?

If it is fueled by something leached from the plastics in the pumps and is not phosphates, a heavy dose of activated carbon might be quite helpful.

Well I am not 100% sure the first growth was on the pumps. Whether it was or wasn't, if the pumps were leaching anything that goes into the water -- algae can start growing anywhere from that.

And, my pumps are Tunze (and one Cobalt/MJ original), so I think that is highly unlikely to be a source of anything.

I remove and acid wash regularly.

Sorry for derailing your thread. I thought you were saying that this started on jebao pumps as well.
