IS this Enough T-5

Hey guys thinking of taking off my 2 x 96 Watt Orbit fixture and using a SLS TEK light fixture 4 X 39 Watt fixture, giving me 156 watts instead of 192 watts.

The tank is a standard 40R 36 x 15 x 17

Do you think this will be enough light to keep Acros???

It should be enough to get good results. You should make sure the bulbs have individual reflectors first, though.

Probably so...I keep all SPS in my 30R with the 4 x 24 TEK light.

Also, the watts per gallon measurement gets thrown right out the door with T5s. I'm a huge advocate and will not have anything but in the my tanks from now on.

Sounds like it should be enough to me.

I've always been a MH fan myself but recently I've been leaning toward T-5's.

Thanks for the info guys I figured the WPG Measurement goes right out the window.

I have been a big fan of Halide too and I defiantly think it will always have its place in Reef Aquaria.

The SLS Tec light does come with individual reflectors As far as a bulb configuration goes what are you guys using I want a pretty good mix of light.

Any of you guys have pics of your tanks with T-5's

Thanks,

Did someone say they wanted a pics of T5 tanks.

Here is my 55g with 4 x 54watt T5HO's. ICECAP SLR's and Geismann bulbs.

Unforturnately my camera sucks so the picture isnt all that great.

Sweet tank are the icecap reflectors better then the TEK reflectors??? Why would you recommend the 6 vs. the 4 more light remember my tank is only 17" deep?

cam barr

6 vs. 4, a little more light and you can mix different bulbs a little more. 6 gives a little more flexibility. Just my 2 cents..

i would think you could, but you must get individual parabolic reflectors. remember, it is intensity of light, not the outdated watt-per-gallon rule.

On a tank that small, yes 4 bulbs is enough. I have 6 over my 75 and my acros are doing just fine. 8 wont even fit on an 18" wide tank and its just a waste of watts and cost of 2 more bulbs.

si i should go whith the 4 X 39 watt what bulbs would you guys reccomend for a good mix of color in the light

yes but how long have you had those corals? I've gotton some growth from a 8 bulb tek light but they only do 5000 lux, sunlight and halide's are stronger.

Bugger is that ?? for me. I have had some of the SPS for almost a year.....the rest since about early december. Growth is good on all the colonies and frags.
