Is this Ich?

My Regal angelfish has been in the tank for 15 days and finally ate a few pieces of frozen Mysis today (maybe 3 pieces :celeb2:). It has been picking at the rock. However I noticed what might be ich like symptons however the dots are only on the fins along the egde of the fins. Is this Ich or something different. The fish does not seem to be under stress and breathing normally. As a matter of fact it has been slowing improving over the last two weeks.

It's in the DT now previously I have not been successful with QT so I decided to try DT. Only other big fish is a Kole Tang which had minor ich when I first got it about one year ago but ich disappears after a few days.

What is the recommended course of action here consider the fish just started to eat today.

Lymphocystis is persistent and will go away with good nutrition. Ich is not persistent and will disappear in a few days.

looks like the right diagnosis. Googled the disease it looks like this (I have a hard time taking picture myself) but a lot less severe. Just a few spots no fin rot. Thank you very much!

So it is eating better and sounds like it will go away by itself. Thanks a lot again it made my day!

Well adding selcon or vitachem to its food will hasten the departure of lymphocystis.

This could takes weeks to a month or more to fully go away

It has been a few more days now and it has not gotten better or worse. Maybe 10 spots here and there along the fins. Fish has gain more appetite and comes out to investigate when people are nearby.

Here's a picture. White stuff on the blue strip is lighting.

No, that's just the effect of the actinic light, not brook.

She looks like she is developing a knife back, either due to not eating, intestinal parasites or being caught with cyanide.

Where is this fish from? My guess would be the Maldives which should most likely rule out cyanide poisoning. So if she starts eating well but still not gains weight I would consider a PraziPro treatment.

Lymphocystis will take several weeks to moths to go away on its own. It not getting worse or spreading is already a good sign.

If it doesn't go away in 3 months and if it is just on the outer edges of the fins you can cut it off with very sharp and sterilized scissors and then apply some iodine to the cuts. I have done that before with success but probably wouldn't do it with a regal angel, especially not with one that isn't completely stable and well acclimated.

Your best cause of action is to get her to feed well and see that she gains weight.

If you keep the water in excellent quality the Lyphocystis lumps should eventually go away on their own.

IME with lymph that's not how it forms on fish... I hope for his sake I'm wrong. Do you have more pics?

She is skinnier than when she first came in but she seems to be eating more day by day. She did not eat for 2 weeks. She seems to be getting use to aquarium style of feed where one eats a lot in one seating instead of constantly grazing. She started by eating maybe one or two Mysis each feeding now he's eating maybe 10. She is definitely getting more active after I removed the Kole tang from the tank.

Here is one more I will take some more when the light is on. There are maybe two or three spots on the dorsal and a few small ones on the tail. Nothing on the body as far I can tell.

Should I do a round of Prazi once the fish gain some weight as a preventive measure? From what I have read it has very little adverse effect on corals and other inhabitants.

Try fresh oysters in the shell. My regal angels always went nuts and stuffed themselves to the max when I fed it to them.

As for Prazi - it may not kill the corals directly but it will likely kill all the worms in your tank and that could mess up the water.
I would wait and see if she gains weight when feeding well.
If she doesn't regain weight despite feeding well I would remover her to a treatment tank and do a round of prazi there.

Lymphocystis usually starts at the edges of the fins and other areas that are easily injured like mouth or gill cover edges. Often the nodules form at small injuries from netting.

Besides bad water quality it may also be caused at some sensitive fish by prolonged copper exposure.

I agree with the sensitive fish getting it from copper, that how my emperor angel got it. I saw the spots that look like sores on the body and it appears there are some spots on the tail. The first pic didn't look like lymph if I'm seeing it correctly. Appeared to look like white film on three of the stripes

Yeah, that looks very much like first stage Lymphcystis on the tail fin.

I would be the most concerned about the beginning knife back. It's a bad sign. If it doesn't improve soon or even get worse you need to treat her against internal parasites.

Is this one from the Maldives? I found those to be the easiest to get to feed. All Maldives Pygoplites I had started eating right away without any convincing required. But I got them straight from the importer the day after they arrived. The key is to get them while still fresh, meaning not much time spent at wholesaler or LFS. Every day spend in a naked wholesale or LFS tank decreases the survival rate of these guys (actually all fish).

Thanks everyone for the diagnostic. I will keep an eye on the knife back and update in two weeks.

The fish is coming from the importer directly, CIS import out of California. They were out of stock for a while so very likely the fish was shipped within days of coming in. It seemed more robust comparing to the ones from LFS. It was labeled Red Sea but we all know nothing has come from Red Sea for a while so it might very well be Maldives. I just ordered a Copperband from the same place it seems very healthy and picked on frozen already on day 2 (even ate a piece or two). So except for special circumstances I will not buy from LFS again. I will be a very happy camper to have both fish thriving in my tank.

This is where Petco.com gets their fish from. They are also known as Tropical fish International. With the last picture that clears up what I thought I was seeing on the Regal... Lymph like Roewer said
