A local reefer is selling these purple LTA's and I want to make sure the color is natural and not food died.

Looks healthy to me, i would take them.
Minus the fact you you have a barebottom and long tentacle's really do need sand to thrive.

Oh really?

I was thinking about selling my Green BTA for the Purple LTA.

Does the LTA foot not stick to liverock?

They are always found in the sand in the wild, if there are not other options they may wedge in a crevice in the rock but i would almost guarentee a floating/wandering anemone.

I have a PLTA that has the option to be in the sand but has his foot in a crevice in the rock. He is doing great and has never left the same spot.

Dose't look like a LTA to me. I have one that is the same color and species as that one in the pic. I can't remember the name of mine thugh. I have BB and no problems with mine wandering.

that is def a LTA.. M. Doreensis.. they should have sand to bury their foot in, but have been known to place their foot in the rocks... if you have BB why not just use a hidden rubbermaid conatainer full of sand, place LR around it and to hide the container. i have done it along with plenty others who have BB systems to be able to keep sand dwelling anemones comfortably.

There is no doubt as to that being a lta. yes they will sometimes attach to sand, but isn't the goal of our home aquariums to try and replicate the animals natural envoirment to the best of our knowledge? If you look around, there will never be a picture of a long tentacle anemone in the rocks. Sand Only.
I'm basically echoing what svxh6 says, the container trick will work and will make a happy lta.

You can see my PLTA in the pic to the left. If its not in the sand it moves all over the place. You do not want a large anemone like that moving around your tank. If you can get him some sand, both of you will be much happier.
