Hi,

I have seen this for sale on Ebay. It is sold as a deep water acropora? Can you please confirm this?

Thanks

Looks it, need a closer picture. Not to mention its a lil frag...

Smooth skin and polyps that are spread farther apart would be a deep water, does this apply to yours?

It's hard to tell..it looks smooth towards the right side however looks thick towards the left. Anyway you can get a better picture?

Yes you are breaking rules. Please don't link to eBay. Mods will close your thread.

"Deepwater" means nothing, it's just a generic term that is placed on any "smooth skinned" Acropora sp. It has little basis in reality when it comes to those corals actually coming from deep water.

Thanks for your replies.

Would you say this coral is Acropora loripes or Acropora multiacuta or what?

If I buy this coral, would it be OK to dip it in Coral Rx? If not, what would you suggest?

Finally, in what position should I place it on my live rock? Would 250 mmol PAR be OK for good colouration (note that my nutrients are low). I have spaces available at higher positions, which get 350 mmol PAR.

Cheers

PS. Unfortunately I am unable to remove the Ebay link :sad2:. I guess this shouldn't upset sponsors since the coral in question is for sale in the UK.

For the real name you can post in sps identification at the top of the threads, frick is a beast at id's!

That is good par readings, they say deep water does good in indirect light, but don't take my word as gospel. Do some google searches.

Coral rx is always a good thing!

Second I love my deep water, mine is a fast grower! Good luck!

It doesnt look deepwater esk if you ask me. That could turn into a stag. Definitely not loripes or multiacuta..

Ask the seller. He is one of the top UK SPS suppliers!.

I had done before posting here. He said that it could be A. loripes. His idea was that because the coral has a smooth skin it must be deep water acropora ...

It doesn't look like Loripes to me.

Deepwater SPS often have smooth skins, so whenever one sees a smooth skinned acro, it is often assumed to be a deepwater. IME, smooth skinned acro's nearly always turn out nice!.
They usually have sparse polyps, so your one looks almost a cross between the two!. It looks nice, whatever it is?!…..
