hi everyone,
i got this new fish last week and it has got something on it. its been in qt since purchased a week ago but in the last 3 days has developed some growths on tail and possibly face. have a look at the close up of the tail. Are u familiar with this maladie? is it treatable with formalin or is it viral? thanks in advance for your advice. Ive seen some threads on lymph but its hard to see if its the saem thing. also it seems to be spreading quite quickly

Treatable. I can't remember the name of it, but yes. Get fish to qt and wait for someone to tell you the treatment.

I would do a proper FW dip and see if that stuff doesn't come off. If it does its probably flukes, if not it may be some kind of lymph but lymph looks a bit different to me I think.

My money is on flukes

Lymph looks more like cotton. I agree with the freshwater dip suggestion. Set up some freshwater, bring the pH and temp to that of your display tank, then dip the fish for a few minutes.

ok did a 5 min freshwater dip and the tail is now perfect but the fins still have the growth (thinkin lymph) i'll keep yis posted

Sorry, To jump in about the same situation but i have the same fish and same issue my fish has been in the Q/T from the l.f.s 9 days and will need to get some med any info on what to get? thanks

I would try formalin or prazi pro for flukes. If it's lymphocystis, it's viral, usually non fatal and not treatable.

My thoughts on the look of lymph- it reminds me of an egg you put to boil, but the shell accidentally cracks and a little teeny tiny bit of egg comes out weird shaped but smooth and white.

sorry to hear that kumb.
the tail is still good but the "lymh" stayed on the fins. i am continuing the malahite green/formalin treatment to be on the safe side. he is otherwise happy and eating well. the freshwater dip freaked him out though...not during the dip, he was very passive and just sat at the bottom for that but as soon as i put him back in the tank he went nuts!
I'll keep yis posted

little update...the "lymph" (if thats what it was) is now gone from the fins since a few days, hopefully thats the last of it. i was advised to raise the temp to 27 C for a few weeks. whether it was this or the medication or the dip im not sure but so far so good. he looks 100 healthy/happy so fingers crossed.
