Hey Edward, nice choices :). How is the agression with 3 Chaetodontoplus species in the same tank? Be careful when they grow up, they will start to get agressive ;). Just keep an eye on them.

Get some more pics up! That scribbled is very nice :D.

Nick

Nick, size is what is going to cause these angels to show aggression. I am definitely not going to have 10 of them in the same familia. ;) But I can cheat by having different sizes. This is how the Japanese are doing it. He says that if the size of the fish are the same, then this when you introduce them into the tank simultaneously. :) Im sure you already knew that though. Notice the size of the Vermi vs the Scribble. He's a juvi.

Here are some pics for you.

O' man the sribbled is is nice but that vermiculated is sweet. I need to do some research :D . What do you figure for max size 6"' or so?

Chad

Chad, 6" is pushing it.. 5" would be good for a prized fish in your tank. Remember to try and get juveniles so you can try and train them instead of the adults already set on their diet.

Bill, the Scribble is 4" and the Vermi is 1". :) He's itty bitty. Dont tell him i said that.

Marshall, they actually get along together. No quarrels what so ever. They just pass each other up as if they know each other from a past life time. ;) When i took that pic, I thought the same just by the angle the fish are facing. :)

You are right Edward, different sizes helps ;). The problem is when they all reach adult size, then that becomes a problem....BUT that is a perfect reason to tell the wife you need a 500 gallon tank, haha :D.

Seriously though, nice choices on the fish so far...cannot wait to see what else you add.

The max size for the person that asked is about 7-8ish" for the scribbles and meridithi/personifer. They do get large, but the males will be the larger more vibrant ones at the 7-8", females are generally around 5-6" when full grown.

Im actually very happy with a 300g. I dont want anything bigger. I dont see the point when I can create my ultimate reefscape and theme with these dimensions. I've always felt that size isnt what makes the tank beautiful, its whats in it and how its presented. There is so much work you can do with this size tank.. and remember.. not only can you present with livestock, but also aquascape, equipment, overall presentation, etc.

As for new additions, I am going to pause for a few weeks. My chiller is coming in soon and I dont want to risk a potential heat wave on the livestock without it. Let me know if you ever come across a wrought iron butterfly that is 4" or less. Thats definitely on my list. In this tank, Im going after color and beauty and not by rarity.

SDC brought Japanese in a few weeks ago.
They are getting African next week by rumour. There is a rumour of Holocanthus Africanus

wow man nice angels, I've always loved my regal and would like more of them but I already have too many fish lol

I read this entire thread last night until 2 a.m., as I am probably going to join "Club Rimless" for a new home reef tank. I'm not yet sold on a size, but I came up with the exact dimensions as yours even before reading this thread. Guess it's a Texas thing. At any rate, I'm a little hesitant to do this since I'm rather slight (read "short"). I don't know how tall you are, but if you're having problems accessing all areas of the tank then I almost assuredly will as well. I have a few questions:

1. Anything you would change, size-wise, to make the central regions more accessible, or are you content with the current dimensions?

2. Did you consider an external overflow, as I know that AGE makes a very nice one (they made my office 450 and it has an ext. overflow)?

3. I may have missed this during the late hour of the night, but I believe your sump/equipment is in the garage. If so, do you have a pic of how the plumbing connects to the reef, or is it as simple as having a few holes in the wall behind the tank?

4. I asked naka this question on his thread, but do you think you could achieve the results you want with your reef by having all of your supporting equipment within the cabinet below, or is this unreasonable for a setup like yours?

5. What provisions did you make to supply adequate electricity, and do you have a generator or other backup supply?

Sorry to have so many questions, and I will likely have more in the future, but you have done a wonderful job on your setup and I like to use the best ideas out there since I'm incapable of original thought ;) .

Yeah, we put a 450 in our office reception room. The kids absolutely love it! The only problem is that I don't hang out in the reception room, so I only see the tank early in the morning and after hours, and certainly not every day. My 30g home tank was a great starter project, and I learned a lot, but I'm ready to move up to something more substantial. Hope I'm not hijacking.

Treg, I saw that one, but its over 6". He's sure to nip at my corals. ;)

moonpod, is that the red one I was drooling over yrs ago? I also want the one with the bull looking horns. Never seen one elsewhere except on the Chinese tanks. Oh, I was PM'd by a member here that phishybusiness had a wrought iron for sale. What I also found was the banded angel you were looking for.

Alicia, the only local fish I have is my recent Vermiculated from Fish Gallery of Houston. The Meredithi & Scribble I purchased from justrarefish. And the multicolor from liveaquaria.
