rob, Aquarium Obsessed sells them.

tanya, I see where you are going. I have also seen the Radiums and loved the look and how corals react. Would the 250's be too dim (blue)? Im going after the white crisp look with no yellow and not blue.

Ed,
I've been experimenting with a lot of dif. bulbs lately. So far i really like Rf-10k on e balast. But i am talking about 400w bulbs.
RF will give u nice color and corals loves this light.
IMO, i really think u should go with 4oow:)))

I'm intrigued by the rimless design. I'm eager to hear reports on maintenance for it - for instance, do you get a lot of salt creep up and over the rimless edge? How often do you wipe it down to keep it clean? How do you keep from splashing water out of the tank when cleaning algae, especially if you use a magnet cleaner?

What fish are you planning? You can't keep any likely jumpers, right?

I think the tank looks great - more full tank shots please! :)

As you said SE for sure. Maybe electronic ballasts though.

Chad

Chad, If i go the 250w SE route, the electronics would save more energy.. but with magnetics, I would get more intensity. A loss of 20% is what is said. Therefore, the decision is to either get 250w SE magnetics or 400w SE electronics.

One option is that if you were to buy the Sfilgoi you could chage wattage just by switching a couple wires and changing bulbs over to 400w if you did'nt think the 250's were giving you enough light or vise versa. You may check. I know I can switch mine from 400 to 250. Of course this may of all changed when they went to all Electronic ballasts. You'd have to ask Will about this. Just did'nt know if you were aware of that.

I agree in that the radiums are almost the perfect light to my eyes. Especially when you add some actinic to them. But take it from someone that has used them for 2 years now. They need to be replaced every 5 months at most. Every 4 would be ideal. That makes that bulb an extremely inefficient bulb in my book. Now, if they were like $30 each, I would be happy to use them forever. Even at dealer's prices they are hard to justify long term.

Ed,
Thanks for you reply to my PM s while back regarding the specifics on the tank. I contacted the guys, and am placing my order for the 220G on Monday. You mentioned that you have your ideas planned out on Sketchup and Visio. Did you use sketchup to plan your aquascaping in 3D?? If so, how did it work...I'm a fan of the program, but it seems a bit tough to "make" a 3D rock....

Also, how did you plan for your CL returns on the bottom? Did you have AE drill the holes, or did you do it yourself. I'm asking because I have to make these decisions before Monday.

Thanks for your feedback, suggestions welcome.
Your tank is looking awesome.

Geoff

Geoff,
If you are going with the pvc bottom, just tell them where and how many holes you want. They will drill it for you. Have you seen mako's tank with pvc bottom? the whole where cnc counter sunk. he used hayward sch 80 bulkheads with hexagonal tops.

I cleaned the RC500 today and it seems to be foaming pretty good at 1.020 SG.

Ed as a 250 Radium it might be more blue I havent seen it myself in person BUT the 400w version IS perfect color and I dont use actinic I do have 2 T5 actinics hooked up and its looks sweet but I dont use them anymore for no real reson at all just love the lok of the Radiums by themselves

Wow that tank looks amazing

Is this going to be a Zeovit tank like your last one? Since you're a Mod over there, is there a corresponding thread @ Z.com we can check out too? Can't wait to see the design you have in mind :)

Geoff,

Ideally you would tell AGE where the holes for the closed loop would be located (as well as the type of bulkheads used) so they could sink the holes. It really isn't a huge deal to drill later though.

Edward,

My only problem with Euroreefs in general is that the neck would get a 1" layer of gunk on it quickly and inhibit skimming from there. Any problems like that yet with this skimmer?

From my experience, the 250w Radium on IceCap seems a lot bluer and more dim ... I do like it very much on the HQI ballast as it seems brighter/whiter [likely more what you're looking for].

That's my experience in 250 ... on the electronic [IC] ballast I've really loved the Aquaconnect SE - and the RF 10k is nice now [though a little too much blue emphasis for a white bulb IMO].

I've got a pair of 250's on a 3' tank, personally would suggest a mix of the radium + a 10k [if you want extra bulbs/fixtures involved lol] - though in such a case I'd rather see what magic you can work with some smaller MH spot-like lights [like the Japanese tanks].

Looks to be an incredible setup

The more we talk about what light setup I need, the more confused I get on what it is i need to get. LOL. Im more into the crisp white color with a touch of blue.

Mark, thats on the list. I have something already I am going to try out. I need to get the core light setup installed first. Then comes the supplemental MH's. :)

Chad, I didnt know you could do that. That is good to know!

John, I had this problem with my old euroreef. Im pretty good about keeping things maintained and clean. I would take some time to clean it out. So yes, it would fill up the neck especially if you are running it dry which is how i like it. :)

Geoff, as John mentioned I did have them predrilled by AGE. You just tell them where you want them and they will confirm with you with the final design. As for the design, I used Visio to design out my aquascape. The 3D rock was easy to do.. all I did was import a picture and you could create what you want by distorting the image. Here's an example of the left side of my tank frontal view. I didnt want to show the entire image as it will give away my design. ;)

That left part looks like my whole tank :P

Very nice, I'm curious about the supplemental MH, but I'll have to wait for that.
About the whole aquascape, when are we are gonna see that? I'm very curious! :D

I have finished plumbing the sump and the overflow is now functional. My jaw dropped when I saw the finished rimless effect. Everything looks so clean & neat. For those who asked if you can add a wavebox, I would not do it. When I put my hand in to clean/rearrange, the water would move back and forth showing signs of overspill. You can probably get away with this with the overflow drainage being lower. But for my tank, this is perfect. It looks unreal!! I cant wait to get my light over it and let this tank cycle. For now, here are your teasers of the rimless effect!
