It.....Has.......Arrived.......

Awesome tank! That's not your basement is it? If so your tank info under your post is very misleading :fun5:

abc reef

heck no thats not his basement. thats the ABC Reef store in syracuse. where the frag swap is. Freakin amazing. You must visit if you havent been. I saw the tank in person last night. Actually got a picture of myself sitting in it. :bounce3: . Joking.

i heard u have to disassemble the glass then reassemble it when u get it home Mark...

on a side note, keep a towel handy, because you're gonna have to dry half your body off when u get done working on it.

They only make their stands 27 inches high because of the 4x3 foot print. It won't fit through conventional doors. I do have a slider, which will have to be dissembled to get the stand in the house. Going custom on stand and canopy which will void my warranty. Also drilling a double Glass-Holes.com overflow in, which I'm sure isn't good for warranties either....

Getting psyched about the build now. Gotta get my butt in gear. Gonna rebleach rock today. Gotta get tank to house and paint it. Construction on stand will begin soon too......right wrasseman???? Canopy order is in place with Joeswoodworks. If anyone needs anything built, I strongly suggest giving him a shot at designing it. His work speaks for itself!

I warned my wife it would look massive when it was empty.

I'm sure it will look a lot smaller full of water, on a tall stand with a canopy. :lolspin:
Your wife must be very understanding or it will be an expensive Christmas!

These are awesome dimensions for a reef tank. I'm sure it will look impressive once it's all done.

im close to being ready mark but ABC is running me ragged right this second . i will start working on it as soon as we can get some plan drawn up. i did pm you about the height of the stand and again the door size will have to be taken into consideration for sure .

hey Mark we also have to figure out the height of the tank and a couple of other important things before we draw up some plans . we need to figure out the max dimension of your largest door so we wont have to raise the roof ,lol .i did PM this to ya a week ago ,maybe you didn't get my pm ?

Hope I got to your house in one piece. That bad boy was a brute but fit perfectly in your truck. Can't wait to get your corals back to your house!

Have you already committed to the glass-holes overflow? Having recently run a Herbie-style on my 360g, followed immediately by a glass-holes 1500gph on my temporary tank, I can tell you that while the glass-holes are about as nice as an open-channel drain can get, they're still much louder than a full siphon (i.e. herbie or beananimal) drain. Unless you're dead set on the glass-holes drain, I would definitely go with a full siphon drain if you can.

For comparison, the glass-holes was on a tank with a mag 12. Ran full-bore, it sounded like a typical open channel (i.e. durso) drain - like there was a gently bubbling brook in your living room. Not the end of the world, but the herbie drain on my 360g was DEAD DEAD SILENT and it was running against a pump three times the size. Like, literally ZERO noise other than the hum of the pump. Both drain systems use a pair of 1.5" bulkheads so implementation requirements are about the same - the herbie drain needs to be in a slightly larger box, but that's no big deal on a big tank IMHO.

I'm not familiar with the other types. I liked the glass-holes, having helped plumb about 15 of them into tanks at ABC Reefs and the local Zoo. My primary concern is low profile. That's why my tank is custom. I had it pulled off of the production line before the bottom was drilled and the factory corner overflows were installed.

I'd gladly consider other options, particularly in the name of noise control. I do not plan to have a big tank:sump turnover. I'm only going to run a mag 7 or 9 or other brand equivallent. Instead, my turnover will be internal, with a Vortech and 2 Tunze streams.

Mike, thanks for your help moving and loading it. I was able to back it right into the garage and Tim and I just slid it off onto the pallets, where it will be painted and drilled before being carried inside to its final resting place. I'll be putting out a "calling all cars" post on that day to get the hands needed.

I'm compiling a photo journal to put together a proper build thread. That will be a few weeks in the making I'm sure.

I would agree with the noise issue on glass holes boxes, and the lack of noise on drains centered around full siphons.

My old setup ran a HOB overflow box with dual drains (1 full siphon, 1 open) and was FAAAR quieter than my current setup which uses a glass holes box.
