It`s All Their Fault!

Found some time to work on the canopy. Pretty much have it done except for the trim work.
And with the front raised for maintenance.

Oh, I love that canopy!!!!!!! Nicely done, especially with the full access option.

I agree, very nice...

I like those hangers you used. Did you do anything to the PVC to prevent it from shifting accidentally and falling downward? I know the odds are against it, but some type of pin at each end would keep it from slipping out of position. Like a wooden dowel inserted through the PVC to act as a stopper 3/4" to 7/8" from each end, to keep it from sliding forward or backward as the stopper would hit the boards with the half-rounds cut out.

The way the front panel holds on is true genius. ;)

Thanks, I wanted something that would look like a nice piece of furniture. As little metal over the tank as possible and easy to work with. I`m quite pleased on all accounts so far.

Great looking Greg...

I think I have a frag or two that would look really nice in there.

Let`s get the parem`s in order.........then when can you bring them over? ;) ;)

Marc, Yes I did. After having one slip and fall while working on it , off the tank thank the Lord, I knew I didn`t want to chance that happening over the tank. What I used was a small brad on each end of the frame. 1 for each slot, on each end of the pvc. I can still move them to any slot and feel safe. The brads were painted at the same time I did the white. I used a coat of Kilz primer, the spray painted it with Epoxy Appliance paint.

Didn`t get a chance to have the nitrate checked today, but did notice that the gsp have perked up a bit.

Nice work on the canopy design. The tank is coming along nicely.

Thanks, coming from you that means alot to me.

Had the nitrates checked today and still in the lower high range. So I plan to do another w/c on thursday.

Looks as though the tank is starting to turn around for the better, I noticed that the PH was a little low @8.0 so added some buffer last night. After doing some reading in Anthony Calfo`s forum on Skimmer production I found where he suggested raising the intake pump on HOB skimmers to right below the surface. I am running the Coralife 125 super skimmer on my sump but have it hanging over the side as my sump is not wide enough to accomidate it. I had the pump around 6-7" below. That little adjustment right there created a much greater amount of bubbles in the skimmer body, also going to go with a wetter skimmate to try to increase the amount I am pulling out a day. He states that everyone should be able to produce at least a cup of coffee colored skimmate a day, I had the skimmer set way to low I believe and was not skimming enough of the nutrients per day out of the tank, leading to the nitrate problem. Hopefully this will help, but I am still considering adding the 5gl dsb bucket to the system. Just need to find the cup bulkheads. Anyone know where they can be found?

Hey Knight it's good to have back updating on your tank, it looks great and the job you did on that canopy is amazing. Regarding you Coralife Super Skimmer you might want to check this massive but very informative Thread

Cheers

Thanks, I had just gotten so busy with school that I couldn`t make the time. Things are slowing down now. All that`s left is 3 finals next week, so I will be updating more often now.

I`ll check out that thread, appreciate that.

Did another 25gl w/c yesterday. The inhabitants are looking alot better with most of the zoo`s opening up again. Sad to say it but quite a few of them were lost. I have tomorrow free so I will try to post a few pic`s of the zoo`s for comparison.
I noticed that my clam was fading abit where it`s mantle was under the shadow of some mushrooms, so I moved it a little higher up in the rockwork and to the other side of the tank, already it has started to color up again.

Waiting on some uni-seals to come in, then I will add the 5gl dsb to the system.

Had the chance to snap a few pics.
These are so I can compare the loss of some of the zoo`s.

This is from 09/04/05

And one from today 12/14/05 Really sad looking, I hope they come back.

You can tell I lost a few there. I guess the moral of the story would be, if things don`t look right in your tank and your test kits show everything is fine. GET A 2nd OPINION! Mine were lying to me.:mad2:
Not sure if I said that loud enough :D But seriously, take a sample and get it checked somewhere.

I can`t find a Salifert test kit for Nitrates for sale here in town, so I am just going to keep getting it checked at a lfs that uses them, until I can buy one. *gives me an excuse to shop while I am there;)*

I have started adding a few things, I want to see how they do before buying anything. These came from our club frag program.
Yellow polyps 12/14/05

And some zoo`s that I won as a door prize from our November meeting. Sorry for the crappy picture, they really are alot brighter than this.

Also considering the addition of a Pearlscale Butterfly. I still have a problem with Aptaisia popping up. Anyone forsee a problem by adding it? I hear they are alot easier to keep than copperbands.

:beachbum:

I've always wanted a pearl scale. Very beautiful fish, but I've shied away from them because I've heard they'll nip at corals and clams. If you get one let us know how it works out.

Knight,

I'd recommend highly that you not keep yellow polyps in your tank. They can overrun your tank in the future and will sting and kill anything in their path. And, they are difficult to remove once they start spreading. Just an FYI for you to consider.

Thanks Weatherson, I didn`t know they were that aggressive. I may have to redonate them back into the club. ;)

Found out yesterday that the uni-seals are in, I am going to have to wait until we get back from holiday traveling to set up the dsb bucket however. I could get it up and going today, however I don`t want to set up something new *especially with plumbing* then be gone.

I have a sneaking suspicion of what one of my Christmas presents will be, so I`m going to have my lfs order me the pearlscale with his next shipment. If my present is different that what I think it is, i.e. a little $$$, I`ll have time to budget the funds for it`s purchase before it comes out of QT. ;)

:beachbum:

Before leaving I stopped into chat with my LFS owner about ordering the pearlscale, and wouldn`t you just know it, he recieved one with his last shipment lol.

Had a spot or two on it so he is keeping it quiet and qt`d.

Someone must be spying on me! :D
