It's amazing how quick we can learn to do things right after we do them wrong. The GF and I were talking about getting another Maroon CF to keep the other one company and Reefkoi said that one would change it's sex to become a pair. That's cool we thought so we found a very nice looking small Maroon CF the same size as ours and brought it home to introduce to her new best buddie.

WOW Can you say "Cage Match. Much to our surprise, our little Maroon CF that was so peaceful and calm with such a great personality turned into Mega Bit*h and went for the throat :eek2: so to say. After about 10 minutes of phone calls to Reefkoi and Aquaman2000 we determined to try and catch the new one and try to put it in something so that they could see each other and not be able to get to each other. A quick trip to Walmart to buy a little plastic container and 400 plus holes later we had a temporary cage to separate the two.

After another 10 minuets in this Forum I found out that I did about everything wrong that you could do. It's been about two weeks since then and we are going to try another introduction this weekend. I guess if they still fight after 3 introductions that it will not work, So we'll see.

Been there, done that. However, I even did things right and they still fought! They finally ended up in the same tank together (20 long broodstock tank), just at opposite ends. Were fine for about 3 weeks, no problems what-so-ever, just still not together. Came home from work one night and found the new one floating around, barely alive. There were almost no scales left on him, fins were gone, and gaping wounds all over him. Maroons are just mean little fish! I wish you better luck.

you have to expect the fight, ands let them fight unless you are sure the baby is def going to die, you must let it go.

I firmly believe in introducing the new maroon in a plastic container and leave him there for a day or three. let him out and let them fight. after the baby starts submitting eveerything should be ok. unless you have two females....

Wow, the gold on that one maroon has already come in fully, which means it is probably a fully developed(at least a couple years old) fish. That's a small marron to have the colors already. That could be adding to the aggression...almost looks like the more developed of the two is actually smaller than the pairee.

The darker yellow one actually turned tail and ran after the initial fight. The lighter yellow one was the the one we already had.

They are pretty much the same size.

i paired mine after 24 hours =D. I introduced the fish into the tank just like you did from the start and the female and juvenile must believe in love at first sight. My case can be considered a rare case at the least.

Are you sure you obtained a Juvenile?

The first time I tried to pair up my GSM the larger female beat the crap out of the smaller male. Lets say I thought that I would never pair her up. A few months later I tried again and much to my suprise the female and the smaller male paired up in about 30 minutes. Its a hit and miss game when it comes to maroons. If first you don't succeed try, try, again.

Best of luck

The darker yellow one you just got was probably a small male in the wild...or at least an older juvi.

You might want to try to keep the one you had in the separated container and let the newbie get accustomed to the tank setting...

I didn't think of that.

Sounds like a typical Colorado case of a scorned woman telling the cops her man hit her and he get's kicked out of the house.

I'd feel bad, but if it works it couldn't be so bad.

Y'all have to stop talking about how mean Maroons are, my GSM is going to hear ya and turn into a monster. :) I'm not gonna jinx my luck by saying any more about her disposition. :D

We've thought of getting a little juvie to try to get her to pair with but as she's in one of the 100g stock tanks with 200+ lbs of live rock, if she decided she didn't like the new guy we'd never get him out alive.

Ok, I reintroduced them again (2nd meeting) and they didn't seem to fight as hard this time. They did have their fin biting barrel rolls here and there, but nothing like the first time. They pretty much stayed facing each other and swatting tails at one another. It looked like a couple time each of them would submit by laying sideways but then would repeat the whole squabble cycle again. There is some fin damage to both of them as you can see in the pic's below. This went on for about 10 minutes before the new GSM had enough and took off to the other side of the tank. One hour later they are still on opposite side of the tank. If the fighting doesn't continue I'll just leave them there and see how it pans out long term.

ok heres my advise. I started my local good specialty saltwater store to get mated clowns about 6 yrs ago after about 1 yr and no luck back then i decided to take it into my own hands. so after many nights up late reading about mated clowns i was pretty sure i could pull this off.. soo neways this is what you should do you find your self a much smaller clown than the one you have or if yours is real small find a much bigger clown afterleast twice its size.. because in the wild the maroon clowns are bid female more mature and darker colored yellow and red and smaller brighter red whiter striped males so i simple found the two clowns that i needed and put them together the male in with the female into a 75 gal full off about 6 anemone so they each ahd a place to hide form one another for away after about 2 hrs of watching the male started dancing and swirling all around the female and then walla they were a pair they started sharing the same anemone never leaving each othersides. and from then one they were one happy couple ;) in a large long tenticle of course ;) so i say take back your new clown and either get a new smaller or larger one and start over your idea with the new cage is very good will def help and the male you have will probubly dance while she is in the cage so u will know ;) so letme know how it works for you

p.s. and from then on the store has been pairing clowns all because of my idea
