its hip to be square....

I'm looking at them both. And a set of the currents. They look like he reefbrites, a guy local has a set for sale that im gonna try out on the tank first

Yeah a guy local to me has the reefbrites on his tank and it looks amazing. I am going to try these currents outs and see how they look on my tank then make a decision from there.

So I think my iwaki is not putting out the correct flow to feed my skimmer. It's an iwaki 55RLT that says it pushes 1080gph with about 30 feet of head pressure I have about 2 feet of head pressure......and I do t think I'm getting near that gph, I am looking for some way to bend the plumbing into a bi pucker and time how long it takes to fill 5 gallon bucket and doing the math that way. Here's my question, the pump works, just maybe not to full potential right now. How does one service an iwaki, I've taken it apart and it's clean and lubed but is it possible the bushings or bearings could be going bad in it. If so, can they be repaired, where, and is it worth it usually

Corey

have you tried going to www.iwakiamerica.com and looking for additional info there as well as sending them an email? I had an iwaki pump a few years ago and they were extremely helpful when I had a question about the pump I bought.

Took it completely apart and found some photos online, about 10pages into google that got me thinking.....I took a small wire brush and inserted into the propeller slots, and out came a ton of sand and some plastic in just about everyone. So about half of them weren't getting any water or not near enough water to be useful. The guy I got it from must have had sand or something in his sump, and it clogged them up. I never thought to even look there as it was not noticeable from a glance. Now the thing is rocking, I don't have it full blast yet in my skimmer and it's making thick white bubbly milk looking foam. :)

Fish list might be about done. 23-24 fish in the tank. We will see how it works out. Got the pump on my skimmer working so now I'm running about 1100 gph through it and getting some good foam. Now it's time to coral shop!!:D

Well I think I'm switching out to LEDs. I'm planning on Rapidled aurora puck kits. Color scheme is the same as the radion. Big reason is it will let me lengthen my viewing time and not heat up my tank more. I live in an apartment and it stays warm in here with the tank and halide. My tank runs about 77-78 in the winter with NO heater in operation. Summer it gets to 80 and my apex shuts the light off. My halide only runs 7 hours a day now and I would like to have more, strictly for my pleasure not the tanks benefit as 7-8 hours is plenty of light I have heard. I figure with the ramping up and down I can add 3 hours or so to that. My concern is some think that at first leds can increase the likelihood of algae growth due to the spectrum that the Reds and greens put out. The acclimation aspect also will be new ground for me. I had Chinese led boxes with only blue and white on my old 220 and had algae seriously out of nowhere, BUT I'm not blaming the leds.
So, when you guys switched to LEDs how low did you start your acclimation and has anyone noticed or had any algae growth in the DT?

its hip to be square....

Why not just get some led strips to run after the halides are out? You can adjust the apex do it doesn't shut down at 80 degrees too. Run the MH's early in the day when it's cooler out and then the strips for when you're home.

Also are you running 250w or 400w mh?

I'm running a 250 watt. Steve, I'm not convinced on is led thing yet that is why I'm dragging my feet about it. But I need a new bulb and probably a ballast too. For some reasons mine doesn't fire all the time. I've noticed a few times in last few months that I come home and the lights aren't on. I unplug it from apex and re plug a few times and it fires up. I have considered Hamilton technology with the t5 kits but not sure how many t5's I need to light my tank up. The thing is I am a college student who lives in a smallish apartment and the heat from the hailed in the summer is nuts. But I plan on buying a house is summer.....so with a larger place the heat won't be so noticeable. It's a tough call.
Which led strips are you referring too, he ones I've seen cost a few hundred bucks and for that I could just but a whole new led set up from rapid.
Wanting suggestions....

Corey

I ordered 2 dual puck kits from Rapidled. Should be here next week sometimes. They are set up with the same color diodes as the radion.

Starting the switch over. Went to HD today and bought some new conduit, bent it there. Came home to paint it and hope to hang it later today or tomorrow. Pictures coming
