Jacqueline's Reef 290 Build

Woo hoo....looking saaaaaweeeeet man!

I know you had a thread going about filter socks a while back and it appears you have chosen against it for now. Would they be easy to add on if you chose to do so later?

BTW I love your custom sump it's rockin' in the video.

Oh and that cool piece of rock that I told you looks like Devil's Peak from Close Encounters of the Third kind that you have laying horizontally now on the left pile.....what does it look like vertical?! Or even with its skinny point down and flat wide base being a high up shelf?! Just curious.

With that rock bridge at the one end and then the canyon at the other end that looks awesome Dave. I can't wait to see it all grown in.

Very nice build, I see a lot of attention to detail, which will really payoff down the road.
When you get ready for some sps let me know. Were not very close to each other, but I will sure help you get started. It will be very exciting watching that tank grow out.

Almost forgot, on a side note about the sugar sand. You may want to syphon the sand bed as a test run and see if it tries to pull your fine sand out. That may become a problem when your tank is established and you go to syphon out the detritus.

Rock work looks good. I wouldn't worry too much about the sugar sand. I have mostly that in my tank and its all ok. If you have enough flow you shouldn't have an issue with too much detritus not staying in suspension. Not sure how well a goby would be able to sift it though. I've heard that they struggle with the really fine sand. As Hershel said, if u need a couple sps frags to start out let me know. I really enjoy big tanks and those willing to take on the challenge.

I'm digg'n it Dave

I may have missed it already but what are your plans for Ca/Alk/Mg?

Thanks! I am really trying to get it right and not have potential problems later. How often do you normally siphon the bed? What is the best method? That is something I have not done in the past but looking back I probably should have. There is not much of the sugar, mostly the first inch.

I appreciate the sps offer and will defiantly keep that in mind.

Flow should not be a problem but keeping my sand bed in place might be. I have 2 MP40 to go along with 1500cfh return pump. I plan on placing them on either side of the overflow about 12" off the bottom. Thanks for the frag offer and will be in touch in lets say if I am lucky 6 mon.:)

Nick my plans are a CA reactor and dose my mg by hand. I am thinking a GEO CR624. I bought a RKE controller 2 years ago and I wish I would have gone with the Apex. Maybe next year:D

Know matter how much flow I add to my tank, I still find that I have to spot siphon my sand bed every other month. I usually take off 5 gallons when I do it. I let the sand be the indicator. When I see the algae starting to increase I siphon and I use the 2" tube hooked to a long 1/2 or 3/4 hose. For what it's worth I have 3 6205 tunze's, 6 return lines and a wave box.
