Jacqueline's Reef 290 Build

Looks awesome Dave, So now that you tank is finished what's your next adventure ?

Thanks Lady R. But I am not finished:lol: It seems there is always some improvements to be made. I would love to install a whole house generator for peace of mind.

What ever Dave picks for his new adventure you know his grand daughter will be by his side.;)

You are correct sir. That little girl is the light of my life.:inlove:

Looks amazing!!!!!

Thanks!:)

Started cleaning up the tank for pizza night. Its amazing how fast things can change in a month. I have been making the rookie mistake of over feeding and not enough flow down low.:headwalls: My sand bed was getting light green growth and my NO4 started creeping up. I am finding that it takes about 7lbs of GFO every 5 to 6 weeks to keep them at 0ppm.

The tank is still pretty much void of corals for now. I am not ready for any SPS. I tried a few and failed. My LPS and softies seem fine. Hopefully by the swap I will be ready to load up on some eye candy:hmm3:

I am to lazy for pics right now so...

Sounds like we should put a collection together of frags we have available for you at PN. WE want to see that thing stuffed!

The faster you can stock it with corals (the ones you want), the sooner that algae issue will subside. The corals will help uptake all the spare junk in the water column.

I would never say no to some new frags :D:bounce3: I better get my QT filled up and ready just in case.:D

I think I am starting to understand the meaning of bio load. :uhoh3: And they said this reefen stuff was easy:fun2:

Good to know. Never really thought about it that way:) Makes sense.

Its been awhile since my last up date but thats life:D. I completed my daily water change system and have my Frag/QT tank going.

The duelhead pump pulls water out of the inlet of my fuge and dumps it into the QT and the overflow of the QT goes down the drain. The other side of the pump brings in fresh salt water and dumps it into the outlet of my fuge.

It is tied into my Apex and will change 3 gal in 4 hours. This is done daily 7 days a week.

I picked up some sweet corals from mr firemouth this weekend.

The plan was both. But there was no way to fit all that I bought in the qt so I just dipped them.:worried: I was assured that they were pest free:worried:

Odds are you'll be fine but since you took all the time and effort to setup a sweet efficient QT, you should use it. Why the rush to pack the tank full? No one can be 100% sure their corals are pest free. I had monti nudis in a tank for years but it wasn't until I removed a wrasse that was keeping them at bay before I noticed them. Fortunately there are not a lot of LPS pests or diseases common to the hobby. However, anything wet can carry ick, velvet, or countless other fish diseases. Not to mention the stray nudi or redbug egg that might just be hitching a ride, and can't be killed off by dipping. The one time I didn't QT since setting up my current systems, I lost every fish in the 60 gallon to velvet.

I don't mean to stress you out about it. Now that the corals are already in the tank, I would forget about it and move on. The chance of an issue in this case is likely really low. However, I can't stress it enough... QT everything no matter who it comes from. Most folks would never knowingly give a coral to another person if it had a pest. Yet we have countless different pests spreading like wildfire through the hobby. I only reasonable explanation is that the provider was unaware they had pests to begin with. FWIW

Nick, I agree with you 110%. BUT(everybody has a big but) I really felt confident that they were pest free. I hope I am right. I did however pick up some sweet eye candy.:eek2: don't you know:D
