January Meeting

Ok, since John our president cant make it on Saturday, then I suggest we make it Sunday January 30, 2011 @ 3pm. I belive we need all of our board members to be at the meeting since it is our only mandatory meeting. I hope everyone can make it.

Most of you have been to my apartment but for those of you who haven't here is my address:

I can be there. We still don't have a committee for nominating officers, do we? Elections will be held at the January meeting. Do we want people to just nominate themselves and others online and we can amend the bi-laws? Just a thought :)
 
Thanks Erik, that for sure works for me. Audrey I do believe Chuy was appointed to or really volunteered for the nominating committee and if I am not mistaken Erik was going to be part of it with Chuy.
I know it could have been easy to miss that because there was a bit of confusion during the meeting and that made it hard for you to keep up and take notes on all of it. That is an area that needs to be worked on and I am at fault for not keeping things better controlled during the discussion part of the meeting. It is all new to me and I am still learning and will be the first to admit it.

I don't think nominating is something we want to do online. But rather something Chuy will be doing before the meeting and it should all be brought up and be part of the meeting.

Here is my thought on the subject as far as nominations are concerned. Since the meeting in all reality is just around the corner, why don't we nominate here online to speed the process further. That way when the meeting is held, we have an idea of who is going to be nominated and can be spoken of at during the meeting.

Again it is just a thought to help out in the process of nominating individual/s. It would really suck to go to the meeting on Jan and find out that the members who were nominated can not fulfill the role/s. And so, the process starts all over again. By nominating in the forum, it will allow us to view the individuals whom are being nominated. At that point, they can chime in right away to see if they can be able to partake in the role they are nominated for or not. It will speed up the process.
 
If you would like to be considered for a position please let me know by sending me a PM. If you would like to nominate someone also send me a PM. I will contact the persons nominate to see if they are interested and are able to fulfill a position.
 
the nominating committee is responsible for finding good candidates for open positions. therefore nominating what the committee sees as the best fit for the positions. when the floor is open to nominations, the nominating committee nominates first.

BUT! anyone can and is welcome to nominate someone during that time if they feel the nominating committee forgot someone special.

this system is in place because the committee is required to narrow it down to 2-3 people per position. in therory it speeds up the process without haveing to listen to 15 people explain why they do or don't want the position.
 
Just a quick heads up. This will be a business meeting it could take a good deal of time and for the most part probably won't be a lot of fun. I would like to ask that we not make this meeting a frag swap or anything else like that and just take care of the business at hand. This is not to say that we can't all visit a while before the meeting is called to order and of course for as long as anyone wants to after we taken care of business.

I don't like the idea of a meeting like this anymore than anyone else does but it is necessary. I would also like to ask that after the meeting is called to order that the board have the full undivided attention of all in attendance.

Like always anyone that would like to attend the meeting is more than welcomed and encouraged to do so. I would however hate to have new people or even people that have only been to fun meetings show up and think this is how all the meetings are and become discouraged and not attend meetings in the future.

Yes this is a very important meeting and we would like if all of you came to it, the more people are involved the more we can progress. Lets get this club on the right path and help it be stronger than the prior club ever was.

Also please if you haven't already, post if you will be coming to the meeting so we could get an idea of how many people to expect at the meeting
 
Erik, am I to understand the part of your last post that says, "Lets get this club on the right path " to mean that you feel as if the club is not already on the right path?
This is just an observation by me and I am curious just what that statement really means. If that is not what you meant by it please do explain it for me.


I feel like STARS is and has been from the very beginning stronger than the previous club ever was. This is of course JMO.

John. I meant nothing bad by this comment, I like the club very much. I just want people to know that the more they participate the stronger the club gets. It was just a notion to get people to be an active part of the club instead of taking a back seat and watching .
 
Thank you for explaining that Erik. I just thought that could have been taken differently than you meant it and thought it would be nice for people to know how you meant it. I Know you are all about the club and meant it in a good way but wasn't sure others would.

It is great that you mention not taking a back seat and watching. The way STARS is set up, every person that takes part gets to have a say so in what happens, for the most part. There may at times be a special meeting called for business related issues that only the board members will attend but this has yet to happen in eight months.
