Japanese tanks...(revived)

Absolutc,
Thanks for spending so much time in researching the subject of Japanese lighting, I remember back in the earlier days so many advanced aquarists were objecting of using 400W 20K Radium and one of threads I remembered had heated discussion because Richard Harke totally dismissed the value of using the Radium, calling it too expensive, but Steve Tyree was the one on the defensive end and did many hours of research to prove it otherwise. And guess what, Radiums are getting more acceptance now a days because Steve's tenatious personality.
So Absolutc, keep up the good work, may be one day you will be the lighting expert and reefers all over the US are look up to you for answers.
By the way, have you gotten those MR16 bulbs yet, didn't you have them ordered, if you hooked them up can you post some pictures. I mean $108 for 18 bulbs, I would tried it too.

Hehe, You all might find this funny, but as I was reading through the blue lagoon diaries - the gentleman reffered to an "over seas" page that made refrence to japanese tanks as strange :)

That is funny.

Here is the quote - rought translation tho

"That and, in addition in the overseas page something it has become topic, it seems
very, as for the Japanese style being strange"

Also, if it makes anyone feel better, the japanese have flooded their floors with RO/DI systems as well :) They went to bed and left them on.

Yes they feed DT's as well.

Lastly, supplimentation with PC bulbs is just as big for them as VHO is to us.

Wow!:eek2: Beautifull tanks! Lets stop arguing and start making our tanks look more like theres! I think if you look closley at the reflections on the water surface you can see flourecent actinic lights. Also, The Japanese and all of those people have way more things down there then we do.

Also, Untill we can talk to one of them and get the facts behind their tanks we will never know how they keep them so nice and clean!

Also, We are all sticking tube lights and Home Depot lights in our hoods so why can't they put some colored lights in theres?????

Blue Lagoon

Blue Lagoon

The guy at Blue Lagoon is named Yasuhiro and if you email you he will respond. The language translation is rough but understandable. For all the haters that are suspicious, I recall alot of people being skeptical of the coloration in Tyree's tanks when he published them. The Japanese are not one person, they are many different individuals just like us and they share the same passion. Let's just enjoy eachothers tanks and be happy that they are not all the same.

BTW(in most of the pics posted in this thread you can't see the silicone:confused: )

Back of Yasuhiro's tank.

Where are the AbsolutC last posts?
BTW-"Maybe the A-BOMB Gave them their GLOW!!!-"this is suposse to be funny?I dont know about you but for me death of the 400 000 people(more of 100 000 kids)is far away from funny things.

Anything with detail on the Blue Lagoon tank was pulled. At this point I am not going to start another thread for fear that it too will be pulled after I put more work into it. So I will wait.

Enjoy what you know thus far!

I saw your post on the lighting before it was pulled, I thought that it was very informative. I think that the reason the post was pulled was the heading. I still don't think that it was right to pull it without a warning or anything. Mods say it will be reposted with more info, maybe a comparison...Maybe a whole new lighting forum. Anyways your efforts are appreciated. We make the hobby move forward by demanding better products and requesting new innovative ways of doing the same old thing. your research as well as that of the others that post here are what keep the rest of us informed. Keep it up:cool:

BTW: Yasuhiro posted your letter on his site in English

Nardis -

Yeah, Yasuhiro told me to check out his diary. That was very nice of him. I was just suprised that his english is better than half of the people on this board :) hehe Just a joke!

The thread was pulled not for the title. I might inquire about a forum for lighting. Since, it is the basis of most all reef life out there!

SKIPPER - how about a lighting forum eh? We would be able to post lots and lots of new information and ideas on lighting. I have a few that would actually recreate storms, lightning and natural things :)

I also found out about the FLOOD light type Metal Halide Yasuhiro is using, but I can not go into details here.

http://reefaqua.com/diary/0206/bldiary0206.html

Here is the link to Yasuhiro's ligthing setup. He posted it in english and his english translation is pretty good. Check it out. It is amazing!. Some one here in the states got ot give this setup a try a see if it is truely better then the 'american'. I would have to say his tank is one of the best I have ever seen period. Check out his progress in his gallery section you can see the growth that happens in one year.

P.S. Absolutec - good luck on your research on new lighting techniques, I keep in touch I would love to hear more about what you have found out.

I want a CUBE *smile.

More than likely your reply will be pulled :)

I am thinking about giving his lighting setup a whirl. I mean, what do I have to lose besides money?

Curiosity

Curiosity

Out of curiosity 'Absolutc' why would my post be pulled?. It is not vulgar or out of context why would it get pulled. I was just wondering. Cuase that seems kinda wierd. I was just sharing a link to fellow reefers.

Because this is going to be a topic in a future issue of Reefkeeping magazine (the online magazine of RC), and the mod who is the editor appears to be trying to keep a wrap on the topic of how Japanese tanks are lit until they cover the topic in the mag...

Lets hope they never want to blow the lid off how protein skimmers work... there'll be riots from all the threads that are hidden until that issue gets published ;p

Cheers,
Keith.

Awesome

Thanks for the reply... I understand. Heyhave you guys heard of using Solar Tube 'Natural Lighting' in reef setups it. That also seems to be the next big thing. What do you guys think?. I have heard of some poeple using it and claiming hugh success like awesome color of there SPS and clam spawning. It would diffinately seem to be teh way to go because, if a good ligthing setup is a grand that about how much it cost to get it installed. check it out.

Have a good day everyone. Happy Reefing.

There was a big thread about solar tubing a few months ago...do a search for solatube or "solar tube" and you will find it I am sure...

Cheers,
Keith.

Im sorry, I have to say it..

reefsociety-

If you look at YOU KNOW WHOS' page, HE uses natural lighting to light HIS tank as well. If you look at the bottom pictures, its a motorized shade that opens and closes to adjust, letting in certain amount of light!

reefsociety, I love those Japanese style tanks, too. I wish they were easily attainable in the US. The cube with all that open space looks really nice, IMO.

what size is that tank-looks like alot more lighting than i can afford(ca e-bills)
over here -"experts" are saying we need glass in between the bulbs and the water-to block uv rays
over there they have special bulbs to ADD uv rays?!?!:eek2:

also -it appears the bulbs are in "vertical" style reflectors-not the most efficient way to reflect.
i guess with soo many lights it doesnt matter too much.
