Jawsee's Reef

Luc ! Sorry to hear you are leaving the hobby! You have been and still are an inspiration to all of us.
Although I believe this hobby is running in your veins and will be back:)

Good Luck

:sad2: Very sad news! Your tank has always been in the top 3-4 of my all time favorites. I have played and replayed many of your videos taken of the months and years perhaps more than any other system here on RC. I don't even know what to say other than I will miss your updates tremendously!! I think those of us who have been around this hobby for many years experience times when enough is enough and we must take a break. I hope you enjoy your time off and who knows, maybe our paths will cross again sometime. You will be missed here dearly!!

Sorry to see you go, this was a super amazing tank. We all hope to see you back soon, but enjoy your time away Luc

Hi Luc, sad to hear about that. Hope you'll have good rest time with Anja and we'll see you back soon. You and Alessandro Rossi were my inspiration in this hobby. You and Anja are really nice persons in real life. Your knowledge in reef maintenance is so huge. It's a big lose for the hobby today. Hope to hear from you fastly my friend.

Cheers.

Very Sad News.
Your tank has been an inspiration, totally understand the need for a break after some hard time, but looking forward to your comeback.

Jawsee,
In the past week I have viewed your beautiful videos (multiple times). You have posted from some of my personal favorite tanks around the world. I just read your posting right now! Very sorry to hear that & I can relate to you "losing passion". This happens when you have achieved everything a reefer can achieve. This will give you some time off to re establish your love for the hobby (which is number 1). I have also given up the hobby few times when I had a tank crash (over 10 years ago) with foolish errors. When you lose these creatures you are extremely emotional and the guilt kills you so much that you need a break. I don't care who you are, you lose corals you will cry because you blame yourself for the creatures loss. Do not feel over whelmed with guilt. In the wild corals grow & die (new colonies take there places). This is how reefs are build; we would be foolish to believe that we can keep corals alive forever without running into this cycles.

Do yourself a favor and write down everything you have learned in your 10 year run; you will forget. May be next time you can have less coral colonies and have them grow out fully without neighbor. David's tank IMO was way to over-packed back in 2009 and regardless of the 3000+ gallons of water volume, the corals still are living next to each other. You said it before "too much - too soon" I advice you keep your tank in place because you are a great hobbyist and we need people like you leading the way.

Just remember my friend your a ReefAholic and your stuck in this hobby for life. Best of luck in your time away from the hobby. We all will miss you

Kabella! A Masterpiece finished..... As many great artists are unable to predict their next Masterpiece, they seldom stop the creative process :) Wishing you the best on your next Masterpiece....

Wow.... I think my biggest fear that I have right now as I do a big tank project is exactly what happened here with Jawsee.... A crash so big that it takes everything out of you... I guess one thing is clear....You inspired so many reef owners with your tank and dedication that even though you have backed off for now...your inspiration will live on....

Luc & Anja,

I totally understand what you mean by needing a break from the hobby. I did the same about 4 years ago, I sold everything even equipment.

Now you can go on holiday for 3 weeks and have no worries at all!

I will make a prediction here, you will have another tank set up within 24 months. I hope I'm right as you're one of the pioneers of our hobby.

When you do set back up you are welcome to take some more frags.

If you're ever back in the UK feel free to pop in.

Best wishes,

Tony

Luc and Anja,

Very sorry to hear this.
I think I was lucky enough to visit you both when your tank was in its prime.
You will remember how breathtaking I found it to be?!.

You are the most inspiring reefers in this hobby. You wouldn't believe how many times I have watched your videos and tank thread.

Please don't alter your basement.. It holds some kind of reef magic.

I would even suggest you keep your basement grow out system running like Machado from Portugal.. Keep a few of the best limited edition frags for yourselves and then, when you feel ready, fire up another tank upstairs.

Think of how many UK reefers you have inspired. There are literally hundreds in the UK alone you have influenced. Just remember where Vince got the idea of DaStaCo from and where is that now?. All his previous techniques were based on your system and all the advice you have given me has been invaluable.

Here's to one of the world's best.

I hope to see your next creation very very soon and I thank you for all the advice you have given me over the years it has been invaluable and something I will not forget.

Please look me up any time you come over. You both have an open invitation...

this is a sad day for all of us :(

good luck, and wish to see you back soon.

maybe keep the large tank and use it as a table for now :) haha

Hi Luc,

I'm sorry to hear that you are taking a break but I like the fact that you are keeping your basement tanks. There is a glimmer of hope for us fans of Jawsee!

I was hoping that you wouldn't mind sharing some of your best practices for coral care and growth. According to the post below, you have run calcium nitrate in the past to maintain nitrate levels. I am considering doing the same as I run bio-pellets. Always have zero nitrates, PO4 hovers around 5-15, Monti Caps are a bit pale.

FYI, some one who doses calcium nitrate that I found impressive is jawsee:

http://reefkeeping.com/joomla/index....k-of-the-month

A quote from him in response to someone asking about calcium Nitrate. They had assumed he used Zeovit:
"Hi,i have no zeovit sytem do i use some products from the range, when i used it i started whit a 1 liter bottle wher i put in 10 grams,i dosed then until i can measure no3 at a range of 1-2,most of the time aproc 50 ml a day was fine for me,if you put in too much your glas becomes green and algae grow faster, this is my personal doses and for my tank it did well, start low and look at your animals:)"

For how many years did you maintain Nitrates at range 1-2 using this method? Looking to follow the same.

Thanks for sharing your wisdom!

Really a bad new. Your tank was my favourite tank.
Enjoy the vacation and I wish you and your family the best.

So sad to see you go. Your tank inspired my hubby and I from just being looky lou's to actually signing up and being members of this great forum. Good luck to you and your future plans. Whatever they may be.
