at a loss for words!!! I have been following this thread for a long time and you have provided inspiration to so many on here. So happy to hear that you will regroup and rebuild!

Luc very sorry to hear this, its the worst when you dont know why and what happened, but thanks for not leaving us :) looking forward to better future :)

Sorry I missed you at the weekend, Luc, but even more sorry to hear this news.

I hope you can work out what caused it, so we can all learn, but I know you'll be back with a special reef in no time. Just shout if there is anything I can do.....

PAINFUL to hear this development. I broke down a 150g six months ago to time with a termite tenting and new build plan and lost all my SPS. You've made a lot of friends in this hobby I'm sure, hopefully all those who received shall give back to you as you rebuild your SPS collection. I intend to practice the concept as well in future of being able to get pieces of SPS back from those I have given if this type event occurs. Hope your able to determine cause for piece of mind.... This hobby can be cruel... :(

My condolences. I've been following your build for a long time. Best of luck bouncing back. Hopefully you can get frags of your corals back from people you gave coral to.

Luc, terribly sorry , it just shows how delicate the Sps can be and what a success you achieved . We need to try understand what caused the deaths so we all can learn, you are a master and soon in no time will have a thriving reef again!

It is in your blood this hobby we all have losses and usually it happens when we are away or about to leave, i understand your feelings as do most of the other hardcore hobbyists! What you have achieved before was a work of art and it will be another masterpiece soon!

Hi Guy's,thanks for the support's,it means a lot for me that i am not alone.

Whe tried to think what causes this whit some other expierience guy's in the hobby and some professional people but too be honest,we can't find it so it is very frustrating.

By now all te acropora's are out off the tank, not a single one left;still all the other corals and fish are ok.

Some ricodea's are schrimping but mayby it is because the wter is not clean anymore from the dying acropora's.

This is the way they died so mayby somebody recognize this,at first the polips are away and a few hours later the corals glow, they almost give light in the dark, than very fast they become dust grey and a few hours later you can blow off the dust,so normal bleaching.

In the weekend all the cellar tanks will be total cleaned and all will be filled whit natural seawater ,around 2500 liter that i will collect buy the wholesaler so it is already heated,it will loose a few degrees but it will be better as fresh water from only 5 degrees C.

As soon it is correct in temperature i will slowly mix this whit the maintank and than we will wait what the coming weeks will bring.

something so selective to only kill acropora I would guess would be an infectious agent that the acro's were sensitive too, as you suggested, maybe a bacterial or viral bug

this is a unique experience, I have not heard of anything like it except AEFW

have you been using NSW in this tank? if so you may have imported the pathogen that way

Sorry to hear this bad luc new :/
Fortunately, the fish and the rest are well
If you want frags acropora when you star again, it will be with great pleasure that I will give you :)

This is very sad to read about Luc. I have been following your thread from the start and cant believe what has happened.
Hope you are able to find some reason for the loses and you can start building again

Hi Eliot,i never used NSW till yesterday,i switch half the systems' water in one time ,i collect water from the wholesaler to do this, all the tanks in the cellar i made empty too put the new water in.

Mayby there where a lot of reasons, too much in too short time,i will never now ;time too look forward again.

All the acropora's left the system, not one single one survived, not one frag too.

In a few weeks i try too introduce some new ones too see what happens.

Here is a video i made on my trip in the UK,some new tanks on that that still need too grow in but allready nice too see.

Greets Luc

If they glowed unusually not indicative of their ability, they might have decoupled their electron transport chain in their mitochondria.. Could be secondary to a toxin introduced or a drug that decouples. We generate heat from brown fat by decoupling electron transport chain to keep warm(mostly babies). Cyanide will decouple also. But if only SPS was affected it would have to be a species specific pathogen that released a toxin.

If enough sps die it triggers a chain reaction in water column. From other SPS.
