Jawsee's Reef

Hi Eliot,i never used NSW till yesterday,i switch half the systems' water in one time ,i collect water from the wholesaler to do this, all the tanks in the cellar i made empty too put the new water in.

Mayby there where a lot of reasons, too much in too short time,i will never now ;time too look forward again.

All the acropora's left the system, not one single one survived, not one frag too.

In a few weeks i try too introduce some new ones too see what happens.

Here is a video i made on my trip in the UK,some new tanks on that that still need too grow in but allready nice too see.

Hi Luc,

I watched that video, wow, there are some really nice tanks there! That was some trip you took! Lots of inspiration to build your next masterpiece!

I am so sorry to hear about your loss. The way it happened is a mystery, however I hope that some of the great minds here can start asking questions and try to figure out what could have stressed them out before they died. I would hate to see that your loss doesn't come with good valuble info that we all can use in hopes to avoid a catastrophe like this in the future.

I did find an article that was just published yesterday by the Smithsonian Institute about Acropora corals glowing brightly before they die. The article can be found here and one with a lot more technical info can be found here

I hope this info helps in finding a possible answer.

Hi thanks for the links, some stuff for tonight:thumbsup:

I made a small movie today from the tank,i put in a lot off stylo's from the cellar so i have some corals too watch at.

Luc ,,, I'm very sorry to hear this
I liked your tank before and I like it now ..
Don't mind about your loss you have Good experience in this hoppy and you still Luc :)

Luc, the tank looks amazing still :) I am sure in no time it will be back to its glory :)

still very sorry to hear about the acros.

Your tank still looks lovely, even with hardly any acropora! :)

I see there's some acropora in your tank now, how long have they been in? How are the acropora doing now?

I wish you would not dose anymore vinegar..

I really respect what you have done. You are one of our pioneer for your honesty and simplicity.

I believe you would continue your perspective and be sure that a lot of silent audinece is following your story.

Hope you would feel our support...::)

Could it be because of the fluctuation?:confused::confused: Could you say the same for vodka?:confused::confused: I am sorry for the loss but you have set the standards for every reefer out there and I am sure you will find out the cause and let everyone know what the cause was and take it as a learning experience.

On a side note, I am a firm believer that what happens to one persons tank may or may not happen to another persons tank. I have read and seen everyone have positive and negative effects whether its kalkwasser to LEDs. But if someone suggests not to do something I feel they should give an explanation rather saying no and not commenting.

apart from my personal experience vodka, vinegar or sugar whether combined or used singular, we know that such "food source" for bacteria ends with the deficiency of nitrates and phosphates: Where corals also do need these even in very very small quantities. The absence of NO3 and PO4 will enforce corals to use their own supplies: Beginning slowly, ends rapidly.

Also, dosing CaNO3 or alike sources would never bring these into equilibrium but cause algae.

My personal experience: When vodka/vinegar or sugar dosed, I had crystal clear water, nearly no algae but the colors darken (excess bacterioplankton)

So, I just predict "vinegar" caused the sudden deaths. Meanwhile, as I clearly see and note, Luc has a lot of experience to proceed... as he did before.

I, on the other hand, continue my tank with tests: Checking/correcting the Ca, KH and Mg levels. Simple as this.

So my friends here the story ends for some time:eek:

I and Anja have diceded that we are going too stop for some time whit the hobby,it's 10 years now and we loved it and still do but we want some rest in our live for some time.

To be honest since a year or two i lost a little bit off the passion off the first years,i still loved it but it was not so as in the beginning years.

At this time the fish are still in the tank but most off them have found a new place too live in,some go the the Uk and other country's.

The two clarion angels are still availeble,if somebody wants them just give me a message and we can work it out mayby.

Most off the corals that left are sold al ready.

Next weekend i will empty the tank and a few days later i shut the system down complete .

The big tank i have too destroy later on because it is too big so sell(sad)

The cellar tanks will stay empty for a while because you never now:)

fact is if i ever restart it will be a smaller tank again.

Thanks you all for following my thread and the kind words for it,i really had fun in it and some off you have become friends and will not be forgotten.

I wil be following the reefers world off course .

So goodbuy for now Luc and Anja:)

wow. Very sad to hear as your tank is one of my favorite at RC.

Hope you come back and share your brilliance with us again.

Wish you the best with all your other hobbies.

I am sorry to hear that you will be leaving the hobby (hopefully for only a little while :-) ). You have been a great inspiration to many. While this hobby is in your blood, sometimes we all need a little break to kick start that passion all over again. While on your travels, if are going to be visiting any LFS and you happen to take some videos, make sure to post them. Love seeing them.

Wishing you and your wife the best.
