JB Waterweld - Disappointed

I bought the JB waterweld epoxy stick to solidify my aquascaping. I put it all around pieces of rock in the tank. It sais it cures in 60 minutes. It's been well over an hour and still feels like soft putty in there. It's underwater, could that be the issue? It didn't say if it had to be dry or not when applying. Anyone have a similar experience?

Thanks,

Are you talking about the stuff on the right? I used it outside of the tank and let it dry. After a week of it being in the tank, it just crumbled apart. The stuff is garbage. I don't see how anyone could recommend using it. As soon as any, and I mean ANY, weight is on it, it will crumble and cloud up your tank. 900 psi my a$$.

I use JB waterweld with good success. I put superglue on the rock, then water weld, then superglue to the next rock. The method was listed on the forum a while back.

Rock
superglue
waterweld
superglue

Maybe I did something wrong then. It's not that the waterweld wouldn't attach to the rocks, it's that the product itself crumbled. It lasted maybe a week and then turned to play dough.

I've had great luck, I used aquamend back in the day and it was a little better. I had to re-do some rock that was water welded together, I literally pulled the entire rockwork assembly out of the tank and had to use a hammer and flat blade to break everything apart. When I say aquamend was a little better, it didn't take so much effort to work the epoxy together. I would guess that if the epoxy wasn't worked together enough that may be the issue. I had to re-do it at the beginning because I didn't work it together enough and it didn't hold strong.

Well I didn't see the superglue sandwich method. So it's just the putty. Either way, 24hrs and it's still squishy :( Luckily it looks like I did a good job with placing the rock solidly and nothing is moving. I think I'll try to get in their with some loctite gel.

I've had great luck with JB waterweld. Note, if you did not mix it well then it does not work well - your fingers should be tired after mixing a stick.

I've got the stuff holding all kinds of things in my sump, tank, rocks, boat. Like I said the trick is to make sure it is mixed very well.

The loctite gel did not mix well for me, but I suspect I got an old batch as it was difficult to extrude from the tube.

i too used the water weld product years ago when i started my current tank…after a week of no water on it it was rock solid dropped the pieces a couple times with no breakage…put it in the water and a couple months later it crumbled apart

Same thing here. I do believe I mixed it pretty well, as well. When I'm new to something, I get a little nervous and tend to overdo it. I definitely mixed it a lot :deadhorse:
