JBJ 12 gallon build

All this talk about racing. I need to get my motor done (or started depending on how you look at things) so I can join in on the fun.

I sold my car moving to NYC :( Track days are only a far off dream. And I can't even get my fill with TopGear anymore!

The Tunze is always recommended. Usually a little pricier than other options, but the optical sensor with backup float sensor is worth it.

Cars and reefing two hobbies that will suck your bank acct dry! Alright a Tunze it is then. I have a 15% discount at That pet place for aquarium items and 25% off livestock. Heading up there Memorial Day to pick up the ATO and some coral. I couldn't imagine selling my cars, they are apart of me. Even if I didn't need a car to commute to work I need a car ha.

I was actually at Chevvy today lookin at the new C7 vette. It was a real nice car, now I need to check out and test drive the Z06. We are looking at a C7 Z06, 911 turbo, 911 GT2, or a Noble for our new track toy not sure what we will end up with. Soulpatch- I got a ride in the challenger hellcat that's around the area. Good god that car is fast, not my type of car but oh my it was insane. I am personally waiting till the Focus RS or RS3 gets here next year then I have to make up my mind! So I have to get up my new display before I get a new DD.

You better call in advance to ensure TPP has it in stock. Their store front has not had anything the last few times I have been there as they were recently sold and were moving their warehouse to the same spot as the store front.

When I wrecked my bike the insurance totalled it. I bought it back off of them and have it rebuilt since it had no frame or engine damage. I couldn't imagine being without this bike so I feel you there.

I have gotten out of my fast cars and such years ago since I needed to tow my bikes. I had a Focus SVT with a Tom's Turbo kit that was putting some serious HP. It was a blast but the speeding tickets were a pain.

I am coming up on swapping out my explorer sport next year and am looking at the new focus RS, Raptor, or potentially an M3/Tesla if I can swing the funds. If I had to pick today it would be money down on the Raptor since I could tow and it wouldnt be much more then the RS.

Focus RS are estimated to be around 40k Raptors are around 60k I believe? Tesla is a fun car but it has it's quirks. We had a P85S it was a fast and fun car but we still liked our Audi's better. The new M3/M4 is a beast of a car. You probably saw us around before in the silver RS5 cabriolet around the area.

But anyways here are some FTS from today. The water is clear, I do not know why it looks dirty in the pictures. It could be the glare...

Raptors are typically sold in the mid to high 50s as they are pretty mass produced and dont keep the markup. The Focus rs really intrigues me though as that drive train could be a beast. I would then simply give the explorer to the wife and get that. My only issue with sports cars is that I would want stick and the wife cant drive stick.

I would love a M3 but not sure I can justify the 115K+ or so fitted out. That is getting close to year salary type numbers ha ha.

Back to the tank it is your light color spectrum that is playing tricks with your camera causing the cloudiness.

Soul is it really up to 115k?! That's insane I'd pick up a RS7 or a used R8 at price. But I think it's the light coming through a window. Or some oil on the lens of my camera. I really never have issues with the day lights on with taking pictures.

ah it was the m4 or such I was looking at for aroudn 115. Fully decked out the M3 is around 85K though I could trim some things out like the 8K ceramic brakes.... I need 4 doors with a toddler so r8 is out for me...

Paying a premium for that coupe! Unless you plan to track the car a lot I wouldn't get the carbon ceramic. The price to replace the pads and rotors... Yikes. And a good combination of race pads and rotors would be perfectly fine for the occasional track days. It cracks me up that people "have to have the carbon ceramics" and do not realize on the street you can't warm them up properly so you won't get the proper braking, brake feel is dull, and other things. But you probably knew that. I was a product specialist for Audi with S/RS/R8.

I am aware of the pads and such. They will work ok when driving normally but let's be real if you buy a fast car you plan on hammering it. There are plenty of backroads or track combo days for me to go to. I have track pads on my race bike and you would NOT want them on the street as they have no feel unless extremely warmed up. Accident waiting to happen.

I always loved the looks of Audi. But I always like the handling and motors in the M series more. Perhaps that has changed recently and when the time comes I will be sure to get out there and try them all out. So who knows.

Sorry to derail your thread.

Back on topic. Where are you guys getting the acrillic and materials for the tank? Do you have any pics of the build process? I assume you will have it drilled so which type of overflow? When you guys start to get things together I would love to come over and watch/help so I could see how it is done and to basically shoot the S.

Audi still have understeer, but for a DD you can't beat it!

As far as the supplier, I am not sure who we are using. My father has some connections he is going through to source the acrylic I need. Overflow will be a center mounted overflow, probably dual 3/4" overflow. Then two 3/4" returns in either corner is the design at the moment.

I do not have any pictures at the moment, as we are still planning everything out. Since this is the first time im not rushing to setup my tank, and I want this to be with me for awhile we are taking our time to make sure everything is right and to my liking.

I may do a closed loop for added flow, but I still need to decide on that.

5/14/15

Picked up some new coral for the nano while we are waiting for supplies to get in to start building the tank. Picked a small frag of favia, Orange montipora, and a green pocillopora.

I have been super busy with work, some legal matters with Audi, and just general summer things going on. Everything has been going real well, the shortcake has been spreading its base and is slowly starting to grow vertical now. My superman Acro has started about 6 new heads, my Aussie rainbow acan started stn, but I found it was because I stopped spot feeding it for a few weeks. It has come back to life when I started to spot feed it.

Unfortunately I had to put my custom tank on hold due to life, and regulations on where I live. I am picking up a new 40 gallon breeder or similar size tank tomorrow hopefully. Just doing some planning at the moment. I am going to go KISS, 20L sump with Eshopps skimmer, 2 part additives, hydor ATO that will be in tomorrow, mag 4 return, Glass-holes overflow And return if I don't go with a reef ready tank. I am sticking with LED for my lights I have decided on AquaIllumination lights.

I am planning on either 2 primes or one hydra twenty six. I have some decisions to make. Any input would be gladly appreciated.

Well I have broken down the 12 gallon JBJ and moved it into its new home the 40 gallon breeder. Here is a link to the build/tank thread for others to follow. Unfortunately I lost the shortcake acro in the move, but that is the only thing that was lost.

Mushumatt's 40 gallon build

Between the talks of racing and that awesome looking tank, this thread wins!

I have to ask, how tough would your tank be for a beginner? I'm picking up a 10 gallon tank for my 5 year old soon, and he's not sure if he wants a freshwater or salt water tank. Don't worry, I'll be doing all the real work, though he'll be there to help and learn. Sort of something we'll do together. I have some freshwater tank experience, but nothing to do with saltwater.

Hahah thanks man, my two passions cars/racing and reef tanks... Both very addicting and very expensive haha. Thank you for the kind words, I moved everything to my 40 breeder, which the link is above. As far as how hard it is, it was stressful at times, salinity swings and parameters would get out of whack quickly. I would suggest a 20 long tank if you can it gives more room to work with. If I went your direction and didn't have a jbj or style of tank I would turn a aquaclear hob filter running purigen and chemi pure elite, heater, jebao rw4 powerhead, skip a skimmer with such a small tank I would do a 20% water change every week. You may want to think about drilling the tank and adding a sump below, you would have more room for equipment, more water volume, you can hide the equipment, and a place to put an automatic top off system. You wouldn't run into the salinity swings I did. U
I ran into issues with keeping up with alk and calcium demands once I added more lps and Sps into the tank but had great growth on my shortcake acro till the move stressed it and it died unfortunately.

If you where close I'd donate you my jbj nano don't know if your close to philly. Anything I can do to help, please let me know man.
