JBNY's 270 Ver2.0

Very interesting indeed. I will read the article this evening.

Intriguing, I keep seeing B vitamins popping up. Likely produced for their antioxidant properties. I wonder what value that adding them would have. Maybe none but like Matt, I am no biologist.

The fact that cobalt did not affect the zoox densities seems in line with the uptake or iron and Mn carrying the load. However, their influence on photosynthesis as a source of carbon is interesting. Hard to know if that is a secondary function or primary.

B Vitamins are a component of the core of the Aquaforest Product line - their Vitamin mixture contains a lot of vitamin B. It used to be called "Coral V", but now they call it "Vitality" which is interesting in light of the article.

Those are my kind of guys!:
Also, cyano needs to just chill. It's into every sketchy thing. It's like the organized crime family of the ocean. Any rare, valuable, desired resource - N, B12, Fe whatever - there's a cyanobacteria dealer on a corner somewhere selling his goods.
At this point it wouldn't surprise me to find out cyano has a hand in booze, drugs, and prostitution.
Actually it has been associated with vodka dosing so...

I'm not sure how I feel about B vitamins in supplements, I've been told my numerous chemistry gods that B vitamins can not be taken by corals via the water column and that it is pointless to have them in trace elements supplements. But many people are using them with good results.

Got some frags from Unique Corals a few days ago.

JF Flame, Exquisita Acro, Pink Bali Shortcake, UC "Super Blue vermiculata

UC "Super Blue vermiculata(again), Turquoise Stunner, blue hoeksemei, "Blue Ice" Tenuis

Polyp extention is pretty crazy on the hoek, also these two.

Polyps are out so much on the Blue Ice, you can't even see the corallites.

Those are awesomely fuzzy! Im very interested in seeing that JF Flame and what it colors up to in your tank!

Me too, The tips are already have a little coloration in them. In another week I'll move it to the DT tank and then we'll see what happens!

Starting this week I changed zinc dosing from weekly to daily. I think it is one of those elements that gets used up too fast to be done once a week.

Polyp extension was really good yesterday so I snapped a few macros.

Also took a better shot of this frag, colors are going to be super fine when this guy grows up!

These are some sweet pics!!!! I love seeing amazing PE, fuzzy sticks rule!

Wow, Joe. In a word, awesome.
You must be getting that giddy feeling of 'kid' excitement when you see what's going on in your tank, these days..
It's been a long, frustrating and I'm sure just plain depressing ride you've been on up to this point.
You must be so bloody satisfied to see your corals beginning to do what they SHOULD be doing in your tank..
Congrats!!
Can't wait to start seeing your fts get more and more crazy..

Joe,
What is your opinion on daily water changes to replenish trance elements, instead of dosing Zinc and Mn and others?

Mike

Thanks those ones really did come out nice!

Thanks Matt, that's exactly what is going on! I'm so excited that things are turning around on this tank right now. It has been a long frustrating haul, but in some weird way stubbornly pushing though to find the answer has been very satisfying.

Wow beautiful photos! I want more more more

Thank you, now that things seem to be on track you can expect more!

I think daily water changes would work fine. I think weekly or every two weeks is generally enough too, it just wasn't in my case it seems.

Really looking good Joe! The weekly W/Cs weren't enough for me either so I do bi-monthly now. It's been up and running for so long being heavily stocked with some big colonies that I believe the W/Cs aren't enough to replenish even though most corals look good. I started dosing Fuel and things picked up alittle, but still not really looking great so I also started dosing Red Sea colors A,B,C,D. I was dosing daily then got a diatom bloom so I cut back.... time will tell, but I do believe older tanks go through cycles even though everything tests within range. Its frustrating then gradifying when it turns around again.

Everything looks awesome and getting better! The Turquoise Stunner frag I think will be an eye catching colony. Are the coralite tips rose or purple?
Back on post 413 you listed your weekly and daily dosings. Are those all from one product line? or are they individually sourced materials?
Any info you are willing to share is greatly appreciated.
Thanks again and following along.

Completely agree. I now think, like you, that older tanks start to have some unique problems that we used to chalk up to old tank syndrome, that probably were just lack of trace elements over time causing problems.

Looking great Joe. Amazing polyp extension.

Many thanks Kevin, I am pretty happy with how things are progressing at this point.

From that older post.

I use the Triton Base 4 Part Solution. which is Alk/Ca/Mg/Trace Elements

In addition I dose.
Zinc daily (Triton till I run out then will use Zinc Chloride bought online)
Iodine weekly (Brightwell Iodion)
Manganese Daily (Triton till I run out then will use Manganese Chloride Tetrahydrate)
Nitrates Daily (Potassium Nitrate bought online)
Acropower Daily (TLF)
